New to cubans

Por Larranaga Petit Coronas are great. Can't go wrong with a Monte, especially a #2. You've gotten some good suggestions so far. I would look into samplers so you can find what suites your tastes.

By the way, I can't believe nobody's mentioned Johnny-O! Great smokes at great prices. You might want to let them age a bit, but it will be worth it!

What is a Johnny-O? For sure this is not a habanos production.

No reason to get testy, John. Greco, Johnny-O is a custom rolled Cuban in the vein of Taboada and the like. No, they are not widely known brand names such as Cohiba, Montecristo, et al but they are tasty and I'm pretty sure they are Cuban. HERE is a pretty good post talking about them.

I was being serious that I didn't know, then. Read a few links and saw that it really wasn't clear and that I could be mistaken and assuming things. So, what do I f'n know? :D

Thanks for that. I read all of it. I take your word for granted that they are tasty. If you are sure that the tobacco is cuban, I have nothing to say.

The point I made - and I am sorry to stick to this- is that they are not in the habanos production line.

Anyway thanks again for the info. Much appreciated.

John is clueless, we all are really. We are just masquerading as people who know about cigars.

Our actual hobby is crochet.

Hi!
As a Norwegian NC and CC smoker(smoke 50% of each) with the same taste as you in NC cigars I would like to give you my suggestions.

Ramon Allones Specially Selcted is my over all fav cigar when it comes to a pleasent and complex cigars for an affordable price.
If you prefer big cigars you could try the Gigantes from the same brand! My favourite Double Corona cigar.

The most pleasent cigar I smoke and maybe the most unique Cuban cigar in my opinion is the RyJ Exibicion No4. The cigars has taste of tropical fruits as Mangos as the most dominating on my palate. A cigar that is possible to find at around 150 USD for a box with 25.

Another grate cigar that alsways is a nice experice is the Saint Luis Serie A. This is a rather full bodied Cuban with a complex taste. This cigar expamlifies why I love Cuban cigars and can not live without them. Always interesting!

A brilliant cuban cigar is the Trinidad Fundadores. This is a full bodied smoke with white pepper, leather and a lot of bean flavours. One of the Cuban cigars that always thrilles me!

If you need some advice as can not be answered here, please feel free to PM me!

Kind regards

Øyvind

Wow, mango? Really?

That may be one that I have to try one day just to say I did if nothing else. Sounds like an awesome morning cigar.

To further disagree with El Greco, one of my first few CCs was a Vegas Robaina Unico and I loved it. Every palate is different, so your best bet is to go out and try what you can.

Wow. Now that's a surprise. Maybe I should ask my grandma to join as well. She was good with the damn thing.

Yes really I think that is the best word I have for the taste. I opened the book of MRN and I see he also use the term tropical fruits abt the same cigar, so then we are at least two. I find this tropical oily taste easiesst to describe as Mongo :) But everyone has his own palate :D. A vey nice and balanced smoke this RYJ Exibicion No.4. Maybe the best RyJ on the marked!

You are right that John's stuff isn't a licensed Habanos SA product. I say, so what? I love his stuff, in fact, the vast majority of my cigar budget has gone to him lately. :p He's great to deal with and consistantly does great work. I really like getting cigars directly from the person who rolled them, makes it even more personal. Don't get me wrong, Habanos SA has some great brands... That doesn't mean there aren't others that are as good or better. Just this newbie's opinion.

I can agree with your view.
And if they are as good as you say, that makes for a big difference.
Cheers
