I did a 7 mile desert "jalk" (jog/walk) this morning (3.5 mi, out and 3.5 back). The outbound was a mixture of walking to get warmed up and then jogging. The return trip was all jogging. I am going to run in my first real 5K next Saturday and am trying to get as much training in as I can. The Mud Run was a 5K but given the huge crowd and the strategically placed knee deep mud pits, guard rails, pipes and low-crawl pits on that course I can't really classify it as a true 5K "run" more like a 5K obstacle course.

Click here to see my Garmin 305 tracking of this mornings run (click the satellite button for an aerial view).

Now I know there are probably real runners in the crowd, but this was my longest run in almost 30 years so a 1 hour 30 minute time was great for me considering I'm still 40 pounds (was 60) overweight and 48 yrs old. My goal for next week's 5K is 30 minutes. Wish me luck!

Desert Rat, good for you brother. Was it a military mud run?
Good luck on your 5k and your training.

The Mud Run was put-on by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department. Team CigarPass.com finished 18 out of 22 in the Open 5-Man Team category. You can see more about it at www.sbsdmudrun.com
