Did Litto do a new version of the Salomon? I bought one in August and it is still resting. Today, I dropped in the same shop and discovered he was still selling them for the same nice price ($17.95) and decided to pick up a couple more. I thought it looked like a lighter colored wrapper and, sure enough, when I got home and compared them what I'll call the OR looked more oily and almost like a rosado-colored wrapper while the newer ones appeared to be much drier and a lighter tan/brown color. Still nice, but definitely not as mouth-watering as the OR. I believe he used the same darker wrapper on the Double Press (which I have) and the Habano Perfecto (which I do not have).

My plan is to smoke one of the newer ones -- maybe both of them -- and let the one I bought first rest a little longer. (Frankly, it's hard to find the time/occasion to invest in one of these monsters anyway). But I was just wondering if anyone knows whether 1) there were two different rollings of this cigar and 2) whether the wrapper is different. I'm hoping they all taste fantastic and this whole thing will be an academic discussion.

From what I was told by LFD, Litto made 1000 boxes. 500 were released closer to the beginning of 2009, while the remaining 500 were released in December of last year. When the first 500 were released, I thought that was it, until they came back in December. I had some boxes of the OR that were dark and some were lighter. I had the same experience with this latest release.

This is the same thing that I was told. Litto apparently has a ton of this wrapper (he's put it on pretty much every new smoke this year...) .

Wrapper color variances happen. The second shipment at my home shop looks very similar. Smoke one of each and tell us what you think.

That is an awesome price by the way. It should be almost $24 a stick.

Yeah, this guy is not my regular B&M, but I stop in now and then because he does offer some nice prices on occasion. Have been pleasantly surprised that he started carrying more LFDs -- including the new Air Bender. Good example of why it pays to support your local B&M.

Isy, thanks for the explainer.

It's a little confusing because I believe the initial marketing for these said that 300 boxes were made. No way that's true or this guy's shop wouldn't have them, I can assure you. I guess all the sales/marketing mythology surrounding cigars is a two-edged sword -- it's what makes the whole thing fun in a way, but also incredibly at odds with the transparency we have come to expect in the rest of our consumer pursuits.

Yeah, there are always extras made to replace messed up smokes, but it is weird that it they said 300 boxes and made it such a big deal and there were actually 1000...
