Growing too fast.
I’ve no idea the age of this cigar, received it from Dave (Davela) who said it probably needed a good bit of downtime. Unfortunately, a good bit of downtime is not possible for one of these in my humi as they are so damn good. The cigar has excellent construction with a medium brown wrapper, slight oil, and a prominent vein running the length. It smells wonderful as I run it under my nose and then sniff the foot that reveals a sweet, strong tobacco aroma. I find no soft or hard spots while squeezing it, and after clipping the tapered head I find the draw perfect with good tobacco taste.
Taking my time I slowly toast the foot, blowing the forming embers until all the tobacco is glowing an even orange, take a couple quick puffs, and then a slow draw. The smoke is of medium to full strength with a perfect amount of spiciness on the tongue and throat. There’s a richness coming through in the flavor that is simply delicious. Tastes of toasted nut, cedar wood, and a hint of cocoa are coming through with a nice twang left in the finish that is long and lasting.
The burn is sharp through the first third and into halfway with a medium to dark gray ash forming, holding strong until tapped off. An abundance of smoke is flowing well through the perfect draw and find it to be a full strength and smooth over the palate, excellent spice coming through. Flavors are consistent, rich and delicious with the finish continuing to last well after exhaling.
This was an excellent cigar through to the very end with sharp burn, perfect draw, and rich flavors that hit my palate just right. Paired with my coffee, it made for a very enjoyable and quite relaxing morning. I really do love a good Montecristo, and thanks very much to Dave for sending!
