Anyone seen a flying trampoline?!?

We just had one Helluva storm come through, thought it was a tornado, however turns out to have been a microburst (probably). Tore a limb off my walnut tree and through the back patio furniture around. It left as fast as it came, and upon walking up front to check out the damage...

...our trampoline was gone. I mean gone gone. We looked in every field, in the trees, everywhere possible and that sucker had vanished. My wife called the law out to report...a missing trampoline. :laugh: Dude thought we were fruitcakes! :laugh: He left, then came back a bit later and said he found our trampoline.

Notice the dude whipped out that pistol, said might be a snake or two. :laugh:

This is where it was...

...and this is where it went, straight through the air and landed in the corn field waaaayyyy over there.

That's pretty awesome! We had a microburst down here a few summers back, had the power go out for 10 days, hope it's not as bad for you guys.

Let me correct what I posted. My wife called the police dept to let the lady up there know if anyone called about a trampoline landing on their house, car, dog, etc., that it was ours. The lady said she was sending someone to our house to "file a report", we in know way asked for someone to come out here, was no reason to do so. Also, the officer was a great guy saying he had three little ones and took it upon himself to actually go out looking in the corn field. Again, we did not ask for him to do so. When he came back after finding it, he asked if I had time to follow him over and he would show me where it was, however he did call dispatch to make sure he had time.

My wife, little girl, and myself all thanked the officer profusely, was one of the nicest guys I think I've ever met. Even offered to come back Thursday when he was off to help get it out the field if we hadn't gotten it yet. It's going to take a few hours to take it apart, and in the middle of that cornfield in the heat. :whistling: If I had a truck, I'd probably tie a rope to it and pull it out.

Understandable. However, we're in the deep South where folks in my little town call each other by name. When we ride by, our hand goes up regardless if we know the car or not. Hell, while standing on the side of the road at the corn field with the officer, I had one aunt stop and chat, then two other cars of folks (we) knew do the same, one of which said their grandma actually saw the trampoline fly into the field.

So our trampoline went missing, blown away by the storm. Did I think my wife should have called the police dept up town to let them know? Not really, and I even told her not to as there wasn't anything for them to do. However, she was really upset (crying) as that is who my wife is. Saying she made a "dumb" call is not appreciated.

I grew up in a town similar to yours. I completely understand calling the police. Hell, it sounds like the stand up thing to do. If it had landed on another property and caused damage, your home owners policy probably would have been the one to cover it. Glad everyone is ok.

Yea, you kinda have to understand how things are handled in small, tight-knit Southern towns. What sounds like something that would put someone out, is actually just the opposite. Most of the time with something like this that sounds trivial to you big city boys, ends up being neighbors helping each other out...regardless of how big or small the problem was.

Glad you found your trampoline Greg! By the way.....how do you call yourself a Southerner when you don't have a pickup??

I have the same trampoline as you... feels quite heavy and sturdy. Takes me and my wife to move it to let the grass grow underneath it for a while. That must have been quite the gust to carry that thing. Glad it never slammed into your house, or caused some serious damage.

No idea at all. I'm hoping it'll still be okay, however we found a third of the springs for it amongst the corn stalks as we walked towards it. No idea how to get it out of there other than take it apart piece by piece.
