how long outside a humidor?

The worst part of a new humidor is the wait. I've bought a new (to me) humidor that I've been seasoning with Boveda starter packs and I still have a week to go. My current humidor is a Scottie jar that only holds 12 cigars and its mostly full.

I've been looking at placing an order with Cigarpage for the new humidor, and to try some new stuff, but i don't know how fast they ship. Realistically how long will an order be okay outside a humidor? I assume with the upcoming holiday I'm probably only looking at longer ship times and a wait of only a few days till they can go in the humidor, but would an order of 20-25 cigars be okay waiting that long after shipping?

Best to season it right and be patient, otherwise you'll have nothing but RH issues. While not everyone agrees with this method, I've always lightly wiped down the interior of my new humidors with a damp towel of distilled water. Helps the start-up process, but again, do what's right for you. Make sure it stabilizes before putting cigars in. Good luck!

Yeah I have wiped down boxes I bought for storage to jump start them.

As far as outside storage I dont see why throwing them in a zip lock w a bovida pack wouldn't work and as Bobby said da page ships w one. Maybe put a sheet or two of paper between the pack and the sticks so there isn't direct contact between them. If you get desperate a sistema container or similar is an option but then you will start filling that when the humidor gets full.

Its hard to beat bovida for smaller storage.

Sticks that are double bagged with a zip lock are fine as long as the bovida has liquid in it. I use exactly this for extra storage, works fine. Put the bovida where you can see it, keep an eye on it...no worries.

Thanks guys, sounds like I'm safe to put an order in whenever. I do have a handful of Boveda packs still for my Scottie jar humidor that I could use if needed as well. I've done the ziplock bag with a Boveda pack before when traveling but that was only for a handfull of sticks, not a 25-30 cigar order.

Rod, I'm definitely being patient on the humidor seasoning. I've got the Boveda starter/seasoning kit going right now, the instructions said 2 weeks, which is over on the 21st so for now its sitting on a shelf closed tight. I figure if the humidity stays stable with the regular 69% packs in for a day or two after that I'm good to go.

If it's during transit, I wouldn't worry about it. If it's a storage issue/outside humidification, go buy a cheap tupperware container or do what Tom stated and double bag with a boveda pack.

First, I do agree with wipe down with distilled water.

I would share that for me I try to avoid as much as possible totally sealed storage. I have many of my cigars stored as they arrived. Then I stage cigars before going in my humidor to be smoked they spend weeks removed from cello in an old cigar box with humid pack (I like the ones from Mikes best).

YMMV

John.

Cigars are way tougher than people give them credit for. They'll be fine for weeks prob months. Just leave them extra in the humidor when it's ready to get them right. If you're really worried throw them in a bag with a Boveda pack.

Will not that everyone has been waiting with baited breath but its been 2 weeks...... the Boveda seasoning packs came out and the regular ones went in this afternoon along with a wireless hygrometer. Enjoying a cigar on the deck first, then off to unpack everything into theyre new home.

I've checked the cigars a few times and they all seem finder so i think you guys are right on, those tiny Boveda packs they ship with last a long time.

Not sure if this came up yet. But be careful of desktop humidors especially those bought on a budget. They tend to do a so so do job of keeping humidity long term due to seal wearing out or not being that great in the first place. I know it’s not that appealing esthetically but the Tupperware bins have a much better seal and are rather cheap Put a few bovedas in there and you are good for a year. Most can vouch for this. I believe the version that most like is called systema. search for it on this site and then on Amazon. This will save you much frustration in the long term

Yes that set up is tough to beat. Trays are from prestige imports i believe off Amazon. I had to trim 1/4" off the top edge w my table saw to make them fit tho. Bovida packs would fit nicely outside the trays between them and the wall. I think I have about $50 in it. They nest/stack very well also.
