Fav "Beginner" Stick

When I first started smoking cigars, and before I really knew anything about them, I gave my buddy a CAO MX2 (Double Maduro) for his first cigar as we sat around the fire pit. I enjoyed them, and thought he would also! Poor guy said he went home and laid in the shower for a couple hours sick to his stomach. Needless to say, that was his first and last cigar. Did not get my "Cigar Ambassador" merit badge that day.

I’ll give you one even worse. I gave my cousin who I am very close to and spend a lot of time with a nice medium farm roll for his first. He liked it just fine and the next night I stupidly gave him an Amazon basin which I had never even smoked and didn’t know they were nicotine bombs. His second and last cigar dammit. I could have had another smoking buddy had I not been so careless. Really bums me out.

Convince him to give it another try Craig. Maybe some of the milder ones listed here? Can't have too many smoking buddies!

Yeah I should try again. I just felt so bad and so dumb. I’ve been introducing him to all my favorite vices since he left the Mormon church a few years back and I fucked up the most important one! Maybe I will give him a Fab5 SS or Ninfas. Neither have much nic from what I can feel.

Something similar happened with a friend of mine. I don't recall what I gave him, but half way through, sitting around a bonfire next to a lake with a bunch of friends, he had taken off his tube sock and was fanning himself with it. After ten minutes of that I realized he was cigar sick. I told him to go splash water on his face and I gave him a coke. Poor guy lol, that was the last cigar he's ever smoked. Whoops.
 
Conn wrapped cigars are an easy recommendation but they can be polarizing. To me they always have a weird bitter note I can’t stand. Maybe something like cilantro tastes like soap to some people. Lol

I agree, a Padron, but a smaller one (which will also keep the price point lower). I had an unusual first cigar, a Cuban Cohiba, but it was so good I was hooked from then on. This, of course, was back when the prices were reasonable.

A Padron is going to be a great smoke, and if you get a smaller one like the 2000 or Delicias (or 1964 Principe, Toro or Belicoso), they are less likely to feel overwhelmed by it.

A Rojas Breakfast Taco would be a decent inexpensive option. Imo, a Connecticut shade wrapper while mild is a unique flavor profile from most other cigars and may not resonate with a newbie, especially if their palate is not very good....(aka all bourbon tastes the same to them etc.

As long as you don't go big and bold, which seems clear from your post you wouldn't, I am sure whatever you land on will be a good choice.
 
For me, it was back in the 80s. It was a Cuban cigar. My buddy had three. Cohibas, the smoke was so smooth, like velvet.
If you have someone who’s interested in Cigars and you give them a good Cuban cigar, they are gonna fall in love with it forever.
