And as if that wasn't enought information, try here
or here.
There are also a number of pipe repair services that will completely recondition the pipes to whatever degree you'd like. One of the best is:
this company.
I read over several of the reviews at TR and decided I've got to try this!! I really like the stronger smokes (a mix of Stonehaven and Krumble Kake in a small Pete Kildare calabash as I write), so this sounds like it's right up my alley.
Next time I do an order of tins, this will definitely be...
Here are a couple of URL's for vendors of higher grade meers: http://www.wgmeerschaum.com/index.html
http://altinokpipe.com/
Also, if you Google for IMP Meerschaum you will get several retailers that sell this line.
These are all considerably higher in price than the IK Meer site I referred...
That looks like a pretty good deal for the money. If it were me, I'd go for the rusticated bulldog (pipe on the right) and Frank's Blend, Leconte and Mountain Mall for the tobaccos. Buying a pipe without being able to actually inspect it is always risky, so I'd ask if you can return the pipe...
Graybow's are fine pipes for beginners. You might try removing the 'stinger' (that metal piece in the stem) if it has one. Lots of Grabow's have screw-n stems but you can cut off the stinger above the threads leaving just a hole.
Actually, there are SOME decent pouches in that Altadis offer...
I generally smoke English blends, Burley's, very few aromatics. I probably have about 20-30 blends currently in the cooler or on shelves. I definitely skip around. Locally I pay around $10/tin + tax. Online I pay less per tin but it gets made up in shipping. If I buy in bulk, then the price is...
For a lower cost intro meer, try IK Meerschaums. Their prices are quite low and, while perhaps not the quality of some signature brands, apparently smoke quite well.
The nice thing about meers is that they don't absorb the character of the leaf smoked in them as much as briars. That means you...
If you want to have a quick rotation, pick up some cobs. They smoke OK, break in quickly, and are cheapcheapcheap! ;)
Because of their softer material, they DO need to be rested and allowed to dry out, but if you buy 6 or so, that's not an issue.
General wisdom (HAH!) suggests 24 hours between smokes. Another POV is just wait until it cools down to room temperature and appears dry. Another says you can use the same pipe all day but then it needs to rest for at least a week (thus the idea of a minimum of 7 pipes).
We won't even get...
Mars Cigars appears to have this on their site. Whether in stock or not I don't know. I'm pretty sure my local B&M has some tins as well, but they're more like $10 vs. the $7.50 at Mars. How many tins were you looking for, in case Mars is out?
Did a recheck and Knox Cigar also shows it available...
My favorites seem to change everytime I try a new blend.
But if I had to list, this is what it would be (today) in no particular order:
C&D's Plantation Evening
C&D's Old Joe Krantz
Wessex Burley Slice
Peterson's University Flake
Hearth & Homes Arlington Spice
JustForHim Middle Earth...
Bought a bottle of this awhile back based on the review taped to the shelf and was not disappointed. One rock in the glass really brings this one alive.
And with a decent price as well!!
