    Pipe Tobacco...how to store?

I use one of my old coolerdors with a regular credo/50/50 PG mixture. Most of my tobacco stays at the moisture level I like with this. I also use mason jars for long-term storage of bulk buys. I use an old wooden potato masher to press the tobacco down, microwave for 10--15 seconds and then put...

    Estate Pipes?

That's true, as far as it goes. Some sellers even caution buyers that regardless how well a pipe is cleaned/sanitized, a pipe cleaner soaked in alcohol will always come out colored. On the other hand, there are those who believe that it's the surface contamination (or crud, if you will) that...

    Estate Pipes?

All good advice in the above posts. I would add three sellers whose pipes are always in great shape, or they are accurately described and photographed. Coopersark Pipestud MrCan I have bought from all three and have not been disappointed with any transaction. As far as repair/restoration...

    If anyone is interested

Some nice looking pieces of wood there Alan!! I especially like the Brandt and the 2 Boswells even though I'm not a big fan of carved pipes. I look forward to your ebay bargain shots too.

    Recomendations for a Small Bowl?

Any reliable vendor that describes a pipe as "Group 2 or smaller", you can be pretty sure that it's a small bowled pipe.

    Skeezed out by Estates?

Well, they don't bother me and I've gotten some great deals on estates. You're not alone, though, I know many people who won't buy estates just because of the whole "used pipe" thing. As Alan said, there are lots of great, new pipes out there that are available at estate prices. I will say...

My First Try at a Pipe

Relighting is, I'm afraid, the norm. Some folks seem to have the knack for keeping a bowl burning on one match (they usually win longest pipe smoking contests) I'm not one of them. Keeping a bowl burning non-stop takes a lot of attention: tamping, "breath smoking", the original pack (different...

    Looking for a good aromatic

Don't know if this will remind her of her grandfather, but Butternut Burley is a great smoking and smelling aromatic. It's available at Pipes and Cigars . Trout Stream from the same shop is also good. Also, Magnum Blend, from J.M. Boswell's is a new one I got a sample of and it's terrific...

    Somebody stop me!

I love my Boswell Canadian! I saw that freehand the other day and was sorely tempted. Boswell pipes are great and their service is as well. (mandatory disclaimer here) I hope they sent you a sample of their Magnum Blend. I need to call them and order 8 or 16 oz.

    New Pipe Smoker Here

Welcome to a whole new area of tobacco enjoyment! Here are some resources: http://www.aspipes.org http://www.tobaccoreviews.com http://www.glpease.com (far more than just a tobacco blender) http://grayfoxonline.mywowbb.com/ http://www.pipes.org http://www.thepipesearch.com...

    Butz Choquin or Nording?

I've only had one BC and I didn't like it, mostly because of the (what looked like) varnished finish. On the other hand, I've got several Nording's in different grades and like all of them. YMMV.

    Smoking a pipe.

I've never inhaled pipe tobacco, and very few pipe smokers do. Mostly it's the exhale thru the nose (something my anatomy, for some reason, makes impossible for me) to get the nuances of a blend. A lot of OTC tobaccos are aromatics, where the casing/topping overwhelms the flavor of the tobacco...

Anybody ever tried to make a corncob pipe?

I snipped your post, 'cause the "clay-filled bottom" is important. MM puts a hardwood plug in theirs, but clay or 'pipe mud' (cigar ash mixed to a paste with a little water) would do the trick.

Anybody ever tried to make a corncob pipe?

Well, you could try it with a section of cob and a piece of hollowed out reed or bamboo. I'm sure they were made this way prior to Missouri Meerschaum coming on the scene. You could check their web page for their history and maybe get some tips there. I think you'd want to use a variety that...

Got the pipes, now for the REALLY fun part

That looks like a great selection! Have fun exploring. I like all the FM's and Trout Stream, Butternut Burley are two of my staples. Gotta get some Nut Brown Burley one of these days. I like the Vermont Maple, but only occasionally as a change of pace.
