That's weird. The aluminum one I have definitely has holes in the back. Although 5ccs is hardly enough to barely dampen 1/20th of what's in there. I also received a syringe with mine, although it was unneeded in my case. And to measure 5ccs, just use something that has mL on it, as 5cc=5mL.
