I'd also suggest looking into finding an adequate draw tool to have around. Could be something as simple as a straightened paperclip. Better to have one and not need it, than need one and not have it.

Loren, Check out some of the information you'll find on paddling.net. The site was very useful when I took up paddling 10 years ago. If some dirtbag hadn't stolen my boat last year, I'd still be on the water every chance I got.
