    new to smoking

I've had some simillar trouble. It seems this combination of things helps: I use fire place matches, easier way to light. I do a first light, take a few slow draws, trying to get it all lit. Then let it go out. Second light, then tamp as I slowly draw. For some reason, this seems to even...

    What's in your pipe today?

Blackwoods flake. This is on my list of tobacco's to try. Looking forward to it. Last bowl, last night, Dunhill Early Morning Pipe. Tried for the first time. Good stuff, but not a regular smoke.

    Ashy taste

Thanks. I think I need to take a few puffs on my first light and really get an even burn. And I'm not really pulling in any air when I first tamp. It's a very intricate process!

    Ashy taste

I'm only a half a year into pipe smoking, and I'm still getting my packing teqnique down. I'm finding that the burn is going down the middle of the bowl, with the white ash in the center, leaving the sides blackened. Also, I haven't been able to enjoy a full bowl. It's usually gets ashy...

    Lighters

I don't know much about lighters, I use matches. But I can point you towards one of my favorite pipe buying site. Just browsing the pipes is a days worth of enjoyment. www.pipesandcigars.com And someone on these boards recommended: www.iwanries.com

How to select a cheap pipe

Yeah, 30 bucks is tough, because you're right, for another 30, you can pick up something pretty nice. I'd love to drop 400 on a pipe if I could, just to do it. I know that price doesn't mean "good smoke" but there are some beauties out there.

How to select a cheap pipe

Good advice. I just picked up a basket pipe (gotta check the brand) a really nice briar with a good feel, good bore, but it was unfinished and had a few little "dings." I'm thinking whoever made it decided not to finish it because of the dings. Still breaking it in though.

How to select a cheap pipe

I go into a bin and look for "b" pipes, and I really don't know what to look for. I've found some decent smokers, but I usually go by feel and look. Any tips or tricks when trying to find a 30 dollar or less pipe?

Television Home Show Looking for a "Man's Paradise."

I didn't post an intro, which I probably should. I did post in the cigar forum, but I thought I could get more responses if I posted in the lobby. I'm definitely not a forum troll, and I smoke pipes. God that sounds bad. I'm a pipe smoker. Nope, that doesn't work......I enjoy pipe...

Television Home Show Looking for a "Man's Paradise."

...a man's paradise in his home, a place where he goes to get a way from it all, and a guy who's taken time and put his personality and his obsessions into this place. I found this website a few weeks ago, and have been posting around for business and pleasure. I work for LMNOTV, the...

    Another noob pipe question

"But the real answer is in the differing personality types of typical cigar guys v/s typical pipeguys." This is the question for the ages....I had a cigar guy call me a "sugger" 'cause I smoked pipes. I could only guess it meant "sucker" as in....well, you get it. It was all said in good fun...

    Best Pipe shop in....

knoxcigar.com -- I've ordered from these guys...no problems, got just what I needed. vegassmokes.com -- never ordered, but they have lots of good info. I'd say get a few corn cobs, or some inexpensive basket pipes and see what kind of tobacco you like. Also, follow dbperea's advice on packing...

Breaking in my first real pipe

I'm breaking in a new pipe right now as well. I'm keeping it stricty for burly based blends, packing it all the way, and smoking it to the bottom, never letting the briar heat up too much. So far, the smoke at the end is aweful, but needed in order to break it in right. It's a basket pipe...

    Mojito Recipes

Angostura bitters is supposedly the key ingredient to make them the "Cuban" way. Works for me. I added bitters to a batch I made recently, they turned out really good. Also, you can sub white tequila for rum, good stuff.
