I'm fresh outta Yuengling, so tonight it's ice cold Straub. Wish the Phillies looked as good as this beer's going down. Props to Ballantine, BTW. I'm going to track some down and add it to the OMB Review series this summer.

And it was surprisingly well-balanced, too. The malty sweetness was as intense as the hops. I'm interested to see what happens to this over time, but I don't know if they'll last that long.

It differs depending on the style. Stouts, as you're finding, open up when they get warmer (at least 50 degrees or so), but some german-style lagers do just fine right out of the fridge. Those references I pointed you to on beeradvocate.com will indicate approximate serving temps for each style.

You're doing a great job with these reviews! You've already picked up the fact that SN's brews tend to be more hop-forward than other breweries (at least on the East Coast), and that it wasn't as "big" as Storm King. I'll reiterate my suggestion to let these beers warm up a bit and find some...

We can agree to disagree then. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, and you've made yours known quite clearly. Either the beers you're trying don't appeal to you or none of them ever will (due to price, perceived elitism, whatever), but there's no use in arguing about it. We all like different...
