You do need to calibrate the hygrometers. Do a search for salt test. It sounds like they are too humid. Perhaps the bad water may also be affecting them. Change out the water and the foam and calibrate your hygrometers.

I'll sit this one out, but if your into knives get yourself a Case. Case makes some of the best pocket knives I've ever handled. They can be pricey but you can find a pretty good deal if you look around and if you treat it right it may very well outlast you.
