I personally go with the 65%, but everybody seems to have their own preference. If you are worried about the salt test, get a calibration kit before you return the hygrometer.
Check your seals and get a hygrometer. Make sure you are holding the rh at what you think you are holding it at. Also swing by the new members area when you get a chance and post an intro.
Ice is the way to go for now. Let it sit a little and allow some of the ice to melt. Mac 12 in sherry is a good start. Drink it until you like it and then continue drinking it cause you love it.

Not really sure about bottles and syringes. Just go out and buy a cheap spray bottle from a Target, Walmart, supermarket drug store. You can always try the dollar bill test on the seal. Good luck
In regards to your beads chipping, it will happen. What is your method of recharging the beads? Recommended method is to mist them with a spray bottle. If you are pouring water into it, I believe it will cause the beads to crack quicker. Even if you have chipped beads they will still hold...
