Well even after 36 hours my hygro is reading 48% and I am certain it is not off by that much, mainly due to the condition of my sticks and the fact I'm using 65% beads....this is the 2nd Boveda kit that has proven useless to me. I have another hygrometer currently sealed in a tupperware...
Just cracked open a cabinet from Aug 05...absolutely terrific! Strong yet smooth, woody and grassy, great oily wrapper and a perfect draw. One of Cuba's finest imho.
Well after 24 hours I'm getting a reading of 49% on a digital hygrometer, I've even sealed the Boveda bag with tape and put it in a zip lock bag.
I don't think it will come up that much in the next 12 hours, will it? Also can't believe my hygro can be off by so much, it was reading 59% in my...
I would not bother with shelves, they'll just cut down your storage capacity. I would fill it with empty cigar boxes, many cigar shops will give em away or sell for a buck or two. I keep a bag of beads at the bottom and one near the top, not sure if necessary though.
I have a box from aug 05 that I've been patiently sitting on, was planning to give em 3 full years before crackin open but in light of this thread I will have to try one soon. I've had a few in the past I found them very powerful and flavourful, best enjoyed after a big meal.
I couldn't justify another humidor, mine is only a couple yrs old and wasn't cheap...my coolidor outperforms it though and has lots of space left. If I run out of space, I'll do another coolidor...if I win the lotto, then I'll do a walk-in.
That's a beautiful site Maui, if I could afford the...
I'm kind of leery about these after reading some people's experience plus they make noise (my humidor is in my bedroom). I might try some 70% beads instead.
Yeah I recall the directions that came with the humidor stating not to season the wood. Looking closely at it, the left corner of the lid is not fitting as tightly as the right corner...when my camera is returned I'll post up some pics, but I don't know if it'll show.
Pics would not show anything...on one of my brothers humidors, you can't feel that distinct sound and feel when you close the door. On mine, I can't feel or see a difference but the humidity has steadily dropped the past few years.
Seems every winter my borther's and my humidors go down a bit in RH and the never come back up in the spring. I know for sure one of my bro's humidors you could feel the seal to be gone and could thus tell the wood has shrunk. I have a pretty nice Daniel Marshall humi and can't get it over...
Scotch...nothing too peaty or complex, something like Highland Park
Red Wine....usually a cab, liking red wine with my cigars more and more
Beer...though I'm a beer geek, something flavourless like a Corona
Espresso...really brings out the cigar's best flavours
Water...alongside all of the...
I've owned both Palio and Xykar, it's pretty much a coin toss for me. The disadvantage of the Xykar is durablilty...drop it on a hard surface and watch those little screws come loose and your cutter falls apart. Luckily, the company really takes care of it's customers. The Xykar gets the edge on...
