Dalmore 12YO was the first bottle of scotch I ever bought, about three or four years ago! At the time, I thought it was really good and the price was nice (about $35 back then), but I didn't know if it was just my newb tastebuds since I never really saw anyone talk about it (except the Cigar...
I was kinda curious about Aberfeldy, since I've really enjoyed the Dewar's 12YO blend. I might have to dig around and see if I can find the Aberfeldy 12YO. Do you know if there are still merchant bottlings to be had or did Dewar's put a stop to that when they start selling it as a single malt?
I noticed that of all the scotches I've ever bought, I always seem to go for the really well-known, highly-acknowledged distilleries.
Glenlivet, Macallan, Highland Park, Lagavulin, Balvenie, Glenmorangie, Laphroig, etc. etc. But I'm curious to expand my horizons (especially after reading some...
Sorry to top an old thread, but I just saw these tasting notes and had to comment.
I first tasted Lagavulin almost a year ago while smoking a few cigars with a great BOTL in Georgia. The very first thing that hit me on first taste was "Sherry!" And I love that combination of sweet sherry...
A generous BOTL passed his wish on to me, so I've been waiting to fulfill someone else's.
So I'm going to pass my wish on to another good BOTL, if he wants it. I'm going to give it to my fellow Soldier, just back from the sandbox, sporkd2!
Now I don't mean to sound snarky, but if your that OCD, you at least have a good sense of humor about it, so more power to ya...
...but for everyone else that uses a Vinotemp as humidor, you don't really need to do all that shit, do you?
I've been considering picking one up as a nicer...
I hated liquorice when I was a kid...but for some reason, all that Jagermeister in college changed my mind.
Now I love anise-flavored stuff! Absinthe, ouzo, anisette...all good choices.
All add one more to the pile: raki! Almost the same as ouzo, except you drink it with water (and ice) like...
Same here, I read the entire blog all the way back to the first post!
It took me a minute to realize that was a noose between David Carradine's neck and his weiner......and then I laughed my ass off!
Buy a cooler for now, later on down the road, you can just shove it in your closet or basement and use it as your box for really long-term aging.
Then, when you have some more dough later, you can buy something pretty like an Aristocrat or Avallo to display in your office or living room.
One...
I wanted to try the 250 Anniv. Stout, but the local liquor store sold out of it....months ago ???
But looking at beeradvocate.com, the reviews were all over the place, but most agreed that it wasn't their favorite Guinness variety.
I've got myself a sixer of Extra Stout, ready to celebrate!

EDIT: Don't forget to raise your glass at 17:59 (that's 5:59 PM for you non-military) in honor of the year Art signed the lease on the St. James Gate Brewery!
Are you talking about the cigar or his lady in the last two pics?
I need to reinvestigate the tubed H. Upmanns. Back when they were machine-made and hand-finished, I used to have horrible experiences with them that really turned me off. Most of them looked ugly as sin, too...
In October of 2008, the Oliva Cigar Family released the Olive Serie V Maduro Especial Torpedo. It was a limited release to certain vendors of only 500 boxes of 10 cigars each. I managed to acquire a few single sticks from that release and I hoarded them away for almost a year now. Recently, I...
