If you are going to do online courses or a degree, your best bet is to go with a "real" school. There are many private and state colleges and universities that offer these programs. Go with one of these. Stay away from anything other than those and you will be fine.

Throwing a rod at 45K sucks. Whoever had it before you must have beat the ever living hell out of that car. Might want to look at everything else before investing thousands of $$$'s in the car just to find the transmission fails, the differential fails, etc.
Sounds more like transmission failure than anything. Problem with buying a used manual transmission vehicle is you have no idea how the person before you treated it. 45K miles may not sound like a lot, but for someone inexperienced in manuals, it's enough to destroy it. Transmission fluid...
Indeed nicotine is poisonous. A cigaratte generally contains about 1 mg of nicotine. A lethal dose is around 40-60 mg in humans. One would assume that the majority of the nicotine would be removed before it would be fit for human consumption.
