Truth be told, I usually remove the cello. I always like the look better in the humidor.
I don't think I would pay double MSRP for anything, but then again I'm a cheap SOB. If you enjoy the cigars and company it sounds like it was worth it.

What was the humidity prior?
I'll assume you know the obvious about keeping away from heat source, calibrated hygrometer, seal integrity, etc.
I have experience with some larger desktops that they hold humidity better when full compared to empty, but that makes sense to me. An empty humidor...
Maybe I misunderstod your question, but if temps are 65-70, I wouldn't worry about the temp for my cigars and would store them in a humidor. If you do decide to use your wine cooler, make sure you control your humidity. I have no experience with these, but would guess the standard RH is too low...
Wow, you guys are good! I'm glad I don't know how to post pictures. I converted a big tupperware type of container and attached cedar sleeves from cigar boxes to the sides. Looks like a piece of crap compare to yours, but it does work.
I also never have seen the linear box code/date, but I've only seen probably less than 50 boxes in my life. The more I learn, the more I know there are inconsistencies. It did look like short filler though so I would guess it can't be real.
