Let me toss something else out there.
Have you thought about having acrylic or vulcanite stems made for your cobs?
If you like your cobs, and they are working for you except for the stems, I have to believe you could get a good stem made for 20-25 bucks or so... maybe less per stem if you had...
Two things that jump immediately to mind.
I'm a 15+ year cigar smoker and only recently started smoking pipes (about a year ago). IMHO you should definitely try a good medium English blend, I'd recommend something like GL Pease Maltese Falcon, Sam Gawith Squadron Leader, or perhaps Peter...
Hey there, I'd have posted this elsewhere but it's pipe specific so thought it would be more appropriately viewed here... moderators feel free to move if you really think it should be in with all the cigar trades and sales...
Anyhoo I have a wide range of inexpensive estate pipes for sale...
I've been tweaking my pipe info page on and off for a while, but the last five entries, on the bottom, are all UK tobacconists, and I believe they all stock this stuff.

No affiliation... I believe they all show prices with VAT included, so if you are shipping...
With the Seattle Pipe Club, it seems that most of the members started with cigarettes. Often they quit, and then years later took up the pipe OR they used the pipe as a way to get off cigarettes.
(That's not the case for me, except maybe peripherally, as I smoked cigarettes for no more than...
This actually happened to me just last week. I received some 1995 McClelland Navy Cavendish right after I started piping, in April 2008. I found it was a serious tongue blowtorch and wouldn't stay lit. I stashed it, and smoked it the other day for the first time, in a pipe I know is good for...
Alan, thanks for the posts. I decided quite some time ago that I had explained my position as best as I could, and had offered all the advice and information I could, and had apologized for a perceived slight, so I stopped posting.
Now, with that said, blatant thread jack, anyone know where a...
Cobs are great, especially MM cobs. I like the Diplomat as it has a hardwood bottom which makes them last longer. Keep in mind that breaking in a cob has it's own weirdnesses, and often the cobs come with a few minor issues -- you may need to sand out varnish on the inside of the bowl, trim...
Actually 45 minutes to an hour is a pretty normal length of time for a pipe bowl.
An average sized pipe will work fine.
If you are spending $60 or so, I'd run (don't walk) to Frenchy's pipes and pick up an estate Stanwell for $38.

I'll give a quick response, given that I've smoked cigars for over 15 years, and I'm sensitive to nicotine, and have been also smoking pipes now for about a year.
1) Pipe smoking is different from cigar smoking. Both are pleasurable. I have not had the same "heights" with my pipe smoking as I...
I think you are jumping to conclusions as to what I was implying, but hey, whatever, obviously two people can read my post and come away with different opinions.
Basically I think that there are lots of people who would buy 965 at $40 per pound, and very few people who would buy it at $60...
Well, I think you'll find a lot of people here object to profiteering.
I'm not going to get on my moral soapbox, but at $40 per pound, that's not that big of a premium over what it went for when it was readily available.
I am sure he can get more $$ for it than that, but I have a hard time...
Yeah, I'm really confused.
965 can be purchased easily from Japan and a few other places. It's not terribly terribly expensive over there, but the shipping is a bit daunting. Basically you can have all you want at around $20-$25 per tin.
It's still in production.
It is completely unknown if...
I wouldn't store pipe tobacco with cigars, in or out of a jar.
Storing it in a jar should be fine, even inside the baggie inside the jar, if that makes sense.
I would remove the filter and toss it. All it'll do is get wet and stinky.
I strongly recommend starting out with a medium English tobacco. There are tons of them out there.
I also very much like estate pipes for newbies. Frenchy's Pipes is a great way to go, pick out a couple of his estate Stanwell pipes, usually around $40.
Try to keep it simple to start. I've...
Well, with Mr. Stud, if you ask his opinion, he'll give it, and so on something like the bagged stuff, I'd ask. He probably has an idea of what condition you'll likely find.
On the C&D stuff, I'm curious myself, especially on the pressed tobacco. It seems to me that it would take a LONG time...
A great source for hard to find stuff is

No affiliation, haven't actually bought tobacco from him, but he's active on SF and I've bought a few pipes from him, upstanding guy...
George does great work. It can be expensive, and he's often backed up, but it's worth it.
I also very much like Dave at Walker Briar Works.

There is no such thing as a return negative any more. Buyers can only receive positive feedback.
I've worked a lot of issues on eBay with folks. Most of the sellers are clueless, not scammers.
I would contact them, simply state that the pipe was not in the condition you expected, and ask if...
Simon at MySmokingShop is a great chap.
While you are there, check out the excellent prices on Peterson pipes... VAT is removed at checkout... shipping is very reasonable... exchange rate is insanely good right now... especially when using a card with no foreign exchange surcharges like...
