    Remote hygrometer recommendations?

That's pretty close to what I've been looking for.  Close enough, perhaps.  Thanks.

    Cigar lineup for vacation

Nice choices, except the selection looks a little skimpy for a seven-day vacation where you'll probably want to share a few.  But I'm sure you plan on buying more while you're there.   My 2012 cruise took me to Honduras (Roatan Island), Belize and Mexico (Cozumel).  Plenty of cigars in the...

    Humidity heartfelt beads problem.

Working "too well" sounds like a very nice problem to have!  Wish my desktop humidors maintained humidity that well during this cold, dry winter we're experiencing in Tennessee.

    Avallo Accumonitor Humidifier Review

If upgrading the software/hardware turns out to be expensive, and most of your power outages are just a few minutes in duration, why not put the Avallo on a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) battery backup instead?  Even a small UPS would be enough to keep the electronics running happily for...

    Humidity heartfelt beads problem.

I understand that Heartfelt beads never wear out or go bad as long as you follow the instructions for hydrating; but if you have any doubts about your beads, test a sample -- like calibrating a hygrometer, but in reverse.

    Remote hygrometer recommendations?

Yeah, I'm starting to think that just about all digital hygrometers have a maximum of three RF channels -- or at least the ones that might work well in humidors.

    Remote hygrometer recommendations?

Much as I love and trust the Caliber IV digital hygrometers (I now own six, plus an older Caliber III), I'm thinking about switching to a remote-reading system that will let me monitor my humidors without actually raising the lid and looking inside.   What I want is a single master unit that...

    Humidity heartfelt beads problem.

When relative humidity in a humidor drops this time of year, it's seldom a fault of the humidor's construction.  The three most likely causes, in no particular order, are: 1) the pretty wooden box and the interior (Spanish cedar) lining are drying out because the ambient air in your home is...

    Bamboo humidor? Just an idea

We all want a humidor that works well, and most of us also want one that is reasonably inexpensive and looks good.  I was thinking that while sitting at my desk, which looks like high-quality dark-stained oak or walnut but is actually made of ... bamboo.   This is "engineered bamboo", which is...

    Dumb question.....

i know some people used to use Oust! fans (minus the air-freshener juice) to circulate the air in large humidors.  I haven't seen those in years, but Amazon does have some battery-operated fans that might serve the purpose of evening the humidity throughout your humidor.  It should be fairly...

Those of you who smoke indoors...

Do a big printout on the laser printer; you'll generate ozone.     Okay, this may not be all that practical, but at least it helps a little.   OTOH, you'll probably end up with ash getting sucked into the computer and printer.

Your experiences with Aged, non-Cuban, Cigars

Full-bodied, full-flavored cigars benefit most from aging, IMHO; many of them have strength to spare, and mellow out a bit with age.     Milder cigars may benefit from a year or two of aging, but they may also become too mild.  When I was just starting out with fine cigars, I heard about...

    Loose beads

Mattster, you can place cigars in direct contact with the bag -- if there is no standing water on the bag or the beads beneath the mesh.  For most users, that means you'll need to dry off the surface with a towel, and perhaps wait a bit for the beads to absorb any water on their surfaces.  You...

    Rh issues

To diapanos, the OP: Your original and follow-up posts suggest that the foot locker (is this the 500-stick Havana Foot Locker?) was probably open for a few minutes at a time, long enough to let the humidified air inside the humidor escape and be replaced by drier air.  Any humidification device...

    Dumb question.....

I have a suggestion you might like: buy a second identical hygrometer and see what battery is inside it.     Ridiculous idea, you say?  Not at all.  The second hygrometer will go into the second humidor (possibly a tupperdor or coolerdor) that you already know you want anyway!   (I started with...

    Humidity heartfelt beads problem.

The first thing I'd check is the hygrometer.  If it's digital and you've had it for awhile, replace the battery first; then either salt-test or use a Boveda 75% pack (which will give the same result as a salt test).  Either way, the hygrometer should read 75% after eight hours or longer sealed...
