If this isn't a newb question :D

If one was looking to smoke 'em in the next couple of months, would purchasing boxes of '05's be worth it? Or should some more time/money be spent finding boxes with some age on them?
I've heard the PSD4's smoke well when young, I'd be grateul for any other info on some youner smokes as well. Thanks fellas.

Age is a beautiful thing. I have a box of Monte 2's from Oct 05 and SCdH El Principe's from Sept 05 and I honestly say that although the Monte's are OK they need some age on them. The SCdH El Principes DEFINETELY need some time cause their still a little green.

So from another newbie's standpoint,if you can find em with a couple years on em...BUY EM! If ya can't...then plan on stashing em away for at least 6 months plus.

There are tons of boxes of aged Cubans on the market, no need to buy 05's and smoke them when they are too young. Do a little research on the cigars that are less popular. Here is a list of cigars you should be able to find with some age.

Ramon Allones 898

Sancho Panza Molinos

Bolivar Inmensas

Hoyo De Monterrey Le Hoyo Des Dieux and Le Hoyo Du Roi and Epicure 1's

Punch Super Selection 2's and 1's

Romeo y Julieta Prince of Wales

Trinidad Fundadores

If you are wanting to smoke the cigars shortly after receiving them, no, don't buy 05s. If you are strictly seeking the "popular" cigars, you may have a hard time finding earlier stock. However, if you stray from the beaten path a little, earlier stock is not hard to find. If your vendor does not list a code, email them and ask about it. Sometimes they can surprise you.

If you want to age cigars for a considerable period of time, by all means, purchase 05s. Some people prefer the "fresh" taste. If you are one of them, you may enjoy them. If not, they will continue to get better for years to come.

Not trying to jack this thread, but Master, aren't the RA 898's really hard to find? I really like that vitola, but can't recall seeing these available anywhere.

They are a little hard to locate, but not difficult. Also it seems the price has gone up a bit.

I would say that if your looking for a great cigar that is aged, go with the Trinidad Fundadores. I just picked up my second box of 98's and they are amazing. The price tag isn't that bad for a cigar aged 8 years either.

Most of the online outlets I frequent either do not supply date codes or if they do, they're normally from 05. If anyone knows of a reputable seller with older stock that they'd like to share, PLEASE feel free to PM me.

If it's not on their website, email or call and ask them. They should tell you what box code they have available. If they are unwilling to provide one, find another vendor. ;)

EDIT: Typo

Ditto again. :p

Thanks for the time fellas. Some good points in here. I liked the comment in another thread along the lines of the best aged cigar being one you've aged yourself. Has made me look forward to that experience. Going to have to get the fridgedor ready for that.
Just don't wanna trust the cooli for anything longer than a year. I figure the '02s and '03s that popped up will do fine for awhile, and hopefully ready to smoke within a couple months. If not, I can be patient when I need to be

I got a tenner box of Cohiba Siglo VI's dated Sept '05, tried one after sitting in the humi for a couple of days and was blown away.. I can only imagine when they have some age on them. Contrast that with the Monte Edmundos (dated Mar '05) that I got earlier. It was a chore to keep lit, but again, the taste was unlike anything I've tried. My experience with ISOMs is somewhat limited, so keep that in mind.
