Meat is murder! Tasty, tasty murder.
As many of you know, I am a Padron nut. On Father's Day I was finally able to enjoy a cigar that I have been longing for since 2005, the Padron Millenium Maduro. I stink at reviews, so let me just say that this cigar was amazing and lived up to my expectations in all regards. Absolutely wonderful.
Having finally smoked this cigar, my quest to smoke at least one of every maduro wrapped cigar in the Padron lineup has ended. I must say that it was not an unpleasant experience at all. Some were better than others, but they were all very good cigars.
During this adventure I smoked about 120 Padron maduro cigars (most of them PAM Exclusivos or #2000 maduros). All were very well constructed and all shared a similar flavor profile of sweet tobacco with a touch of pepper (not spiciness, but black pepper flavor), dried black cherries, and cocoa. Different sizes and blends yielded different concentrations of these flavors, but they were present in all of them to some degree. Perhaps this was psychological more than being based in reality, but it's my experience and that's all I've got.
The only example that was different enough to mention was the Familia de Reserva No. 44. There was a rich creaminess to this cigar that I've not experienced in any other Padron cigar. It was wonderful.
If anyone really is interested, this is how I rank the Padron maduro cigars based strictly on flavor and smoking experience (your opinion may differ):
1. Familia de Reserva No. 44 - best cigar I've ever smoked.
1 1/2. Millenium Maduro - 2nd best cigar I've ever smoked. Almost tied with the No. 44 and if I had more examples of each I'd be able to differentiate them better, but the 2 44s I smoked were both just so great!
2. 1964 Anniversary Exclusivo Maduro - this one fell out of the awesome tree and hit every awesome branch.
3. 1926 Series 80th Maduro - excellent, just too spendy for my budget.
4. 1926 Serie No. 2 Maduro - great smoke.
5. 2k maduro (a regular in my rotation) - when taking "bang for buck" into consideration this is the best cigar out there, bar none.
I could be perfectly happy smoking 2k maduros forever, even though they're my #5. The Familia, Millenium, and 80th are out of my price range for frequent purchase (or just too damn hard or impossible to come by), but Exclusivos and 2k maduros always have a place in my humidor.
I really want to thank those of you at CP who have helped me reach my goal. I won't mention any names, but without you guys, I'd still be a few short.
Now on to the naturals!
