Mary Travers, part of the iconic Peter Paul and Mary died today at age 72. As a backup singer for Pete Seeger in the late 50's she was "discovered" by Albert Grossman to be part of the group he had planed to combine folk sensibilities with sex appeal. From the debut in 1961 Mary was a folk force to be reckoned with. Instant success of the first PPM album lead the group to explore what other writers could do for them giving chances to little known writers like Gordon Lightfoot, Laura Nyro and Bob Dylan. With the singing of Dylan's song "Blowing in the Wind" at the 1963 March on Washington ( the I Had a Dream speech by the Rev Martin Luther King) cemented his name in the popular culture.
