So my brother-in-law and his wife throw a big New Year's Eve party every year. Lots of people, lots of food, lots of booze (for those who choose to partake), and lots of fun. My wife and I go every year. This year was no different, except now we have a 2-month-old. Other couples were bringing their babies, so we packed up little Trey and brought him along as well. About 10:00 he started squawling and wouldn't quit. We fed him, rocked him, sang to him...nothing helped. So at about 10:30, we gave up. We put him in the car and left the New Year's Eve party an hour and a half before the ball dropped.

Now I'm sitting here at home feeding a baby his bottle with 5 minutes left in the year...

...and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm starting to understand what it means to be a parent. ;)

You only give up stuff that you didn't really need. If it's any consolation you get it back when you become a grandparent. The best of both worlds.

Doc.

I was at a [arty thrown by a really good friend last night. THere was a couple I knew there with theire 14 y/o daughter and 1 y/o son. Now, the last time I saw this little one was 7 months ago when I held him for the first time. |He is a bright eyed, very intelligent, very loving baby. He usually goes to bed around 8pm. But here it is 9 when they showed up, and he is full speed. Very curious, touching everything. Very loving, going up to strangers and interacting with them.

Being as I am on the gimp, I tried to help keep him occupied for the parents, so they could be able to enjoy each others company while at the party. They squirt is fast! He was out pacing me w/ no problem. If it had lights on it, he'd try and touch it. If it was in a serving bowl, he had to put it in his mouth. They had a couple of little toys for him that kept his attention briefly. I fifnally found something that kept his attention, a brass and wicker coaster. HE Didn't put it in his mouth, so I figured "woo hoo!" WE played with it for a couple minutes until he decided to show off his arm. He threw the 1/4 pound coaster a god 4 feed, landing it dead center of the Dorito bowl, sending chips flying. I look at the dad, looking at me, both with dumfounded looks on our faces. Who knew the kids had a quaterbacks arm?

Ok, enough rambling. Eric, speaking from expierience, as I have 3. Make sure you and momma get as much husband/wife time alone time as you can. Remind your wife you love her, remind her how strong she is, and remind her how you 2 make beautiful babies together. Keep the bond strong bruddah!

People say having kids helps put things in perspective. Isn't it funny how things that were once important now pale by comparison to spending time with your son?

I know the feeling. We have two. I think I'll go watch my little guy sleep, just for fun.
