Let me first please note that this is not a rant directly about Cross Border Shopping (a hot topic now with the strength of the Canadian Dollar), but instead, a rant about individuals I class as “sincere hypocrites” (there’s an oxymoron for ya).

Wiki says “Hypocrisy” is “the act of condemning or calling for the condemnation of another person when the critic is guilty of the act for which he demands that the accused be condemned.”

Note that while I may not agree with someone’s Political or Religious (or any subject) opinions and views, I have a great deal of respect for anyone who lives by their beliefs.

Anyway, this being an automotive area regarding employment, it’s a big thing about buying North American built vehicles (as I know it is in the US). Very often you’ll see cars with bumper stickers that say:

Out of a job yet?
Keep buying foreign!!

Well, Saturday afternoon we went to the Detroit ‘Burbs to do some grocery shopping and the Bride wanted to check a few clothing stores for sales too. As we’re in line to go through US Immigration, directly in front of us was a spankin’ new Dodge mini-van (looked like mom & dad and 3 kids inside) bearing the above mentioned bumper sticker, and 2 more stickers; one for the Flyers and one for the Avalanche. I figured and thought to myself “Look at this fugger sporting that sticker and going shopping n the States” but knowing how many here in the area have family and friends in Detroit, I thought nothing more of it.

We went on our merry way and spent the afternoon shopping as planned, had dinner and basically took our time getting back. After we came back across the Border to Windsor, The Bride remembers she needs some paper towels, toilet paper and cleaning / laundry supplies, so she asks me to take a detour to Wallymart.

I drop her off at the door and go find a place to park. I park next to a mini-van, and lo and behold, the vehicle is bearing the same 3 stickers as the van described above, in the same places, and it’s the same colour van. I get out of the car and take a gander inside, and it’s chock full of bags from Target (none in Canada), Krogers (same, none this side) and JC Penny (ditto). So, safe assumption that it’s the exact vehicle I was behind at the border, right??

Well, as we say where I come from, I got right fuggin twisted. Here’s this asswipe showing off a sticker on his vehicle about not buying foreign, and his whole day of shopping was either in the United States, or at Walmart (and we all know where most of their products come from).

WTF is with people like this?? You have this guy, who "could possibly" be an Auto Worker in the very plant where his vehicle was made, who wants everyone to buy North American vehicles so he can keep his job, and then proceedes to but anywhere else but Canadian products, so he obviously isn't worried about anyone elses job.

Thanks for letting me vent!!!

Maybe they stole them....then again, that's shopping out of country!

Your just now realizing people are so egocentric that they feel the world should bend to their every need?

I want to go to Windsor to do some out of country shopping for some items I can't buy in the states. :whistling:

LOL, you obviously don't know the prices of "THOSE" in Canada.

Want an example??

Siglo VI in Canada are between $50 & $60 a piece (depending on where you get 'em and whether or not you want Tubos), which would put 2 boxes at between $2500 & $3000 for the lot.

For that kind of cash, I could fly my wife and I to Cuba for a 1 week all-inclusive vacation, buy the cigars (legally of course at a Casa del Habanos), and still have enough left to buy you a ticket to fly to Detroit so you can drive across the border to pick up your smokes.

Still wanna shop in Windsor?? :whistling:

Not really, I've realized it for a long time, but it's just that right now so many people talk out of one side of their face shittin' on those who shop at Wallymart and buy foreign cars, and then do the same bloody thing, because it suits them at that particular time.

Steal a candy or steal $1000, it's still stealing.

Buy an Asian coffee machine or buy an Asian car, it's still foreign.

...it's still foreign.

What IS made in Canada?

Maple syrup and poutine.

AND Bacon :D

She alone makes up any shortcomings that all of Canada might have.

Ahh, aren't people interesting? Nothing like a person doing what's right for his country's economy, SPENDING MONEY ELSEWHERE.

BTW, those are some nice duties off them tobacco products. Never saw a country that's so health conscious. Must be the health care system at work.

Well now its interesting that you should say this because I was discussing it last night. To be totally honest its our own doing that we buy foreign, especially cars. I have an 05 impala and to be blunt its a peace of shit, its had warranty work done on it 6 times and none of them were really driving related. I mean if we want people to buy American produce a better product for christ sake. But instead we choose to cut jobs because profits are low, not fix that damn problem.

/End rant

Remember there is no such thing as an American car! Most have parts from around the world now, so we should get used to the fact that most of what we consume is not from our back yard so to say.

I do try to buy as many products that are manufactured here but it is getting harder every day.

Boy, I'll say. I make it a point to buy what I can that is US made, but there's damn near nothing on the shelf not made in China or some other country.

Also, there are many people that try their best to support their country's workers but their economic situation won't allow them to do so. A member of my family is a preschool teacher. She makes a little over $15,000 annually. After housing and other living costs she really can't afford to shop by anything other than price. Many times, that leads a person to foreign produced goods.
