I screwed up. In one of our buys I was cramped on time and chose to send a 5'er from work, rather than the PO.

Sadly, said 5'er is floating around in limbo somewhere and I don't have a tracking number for it.

This is not of terrible concern due to my hanging on to my own 5'er and being more-than-willing to send it to the person this affected.

Let this be a lesson to everyone. Get those tracking numbers!

The USPS can still lose packages even with tracking numbers so I'm not sure it makes much difference.

I have a tracking number on this package to Ellman for the original PIF pass from January and it STILL never got delivered:

0103 8555 7490 8216 3070

Yeah, the people working at the USPS are the biggest organization of jackasses.
Really???? :0 ??? :0 I had the title given to UPS hands-down. Anyone try that new DHL delivery company?

Ya know, it really doesn't matter... tracking number or no. If it doesn't show up at the recipients house it's still the sender who is responsible. Right?

As I was told by the USPS after my priority mail money order to Wade in Hawaii was lost for over a week, "Priority does not guarantee delivery and we've been having trouble with Honolulu lately". Thank goodness he recieved it this week as I was seriously considering having the money order reissued. Only a $3 fee to do this. Sucks though. ???

Wow! There is love just ooooooooooooooozing out of this thread. :D

I had two packages sent to me in July. When I got them it was 8/8.
one time a netflix movie showed up after 7 weeks!!
If you ask the PO why the mail gets messed up sometimes you get the ole
Gee I'm not sure..uh..at least it got here..uh...
I've learned to be patient.
Interesting that wade had a problem at the same time as me.
Wonder if the Postal workers were having a party that day :D

I guess I'll use this opportunity to give an update on my struggles with the USPS.
If you don't know the story check the PCAT pass thread in "complete passes".

I mailed my pass to the first participant in April with $250 insurance.
The PO mailed it to the wrong place (A Dell Warehouse) and it has since been lost. The PO looked up the tracking information and confirmed that the mailing address and the delivery address were not the same. I had to wait 3 weeks to file a claim after which I was told to wait 30 days for a decision. 6 weeks after making the claim I got a letter from the USPS stating that the claim forms were incomplete. "Incomplete" meant that the neither the "yes" or 'no" box was checked by the PO here when asked if I presented a receipt for proof of insurance. In fact I did give them the receipt and watched them stapple it to the claim forms. I was told that I had 30 days to complete the forms again and re-submit. Four days after the first letter I received another saying that my claim was denied because the "package was delivered properly". The letters arived this past week and now I have 60 days to appeal by letter.

I have no idea how they can argue this one, especially when they gave me the print out showing that the package was not delivered properly and is now gone.

Of course I can't complain too much...A bunch of mighty generous BOTLs here "took care of me" So technically I'm not out anything. Thanks fellas ;)

O.K. I'm done ranting

Do you suspect theft? If so, call your local post office and ask to speak with a postal inspector. My Dad is a retired postmaster, and he has been in awe of those guys for years. The postal inspectors still have the highest conviction rate of any federal law enforcement branch, about 97%. Once the postal inspectors get involved in your case, you might see a marked difference in the way the post office treats your complaint. ;)

I've pretty much always said USPS "insurance" is a waste of money. I personally never use it even when the pass host supposedly "requires" it :0

CPI is the way to go.
yep.

Also wanted to add, there has been at least one instance when a tracking # has aided in delivery. Someone I did a box split or trade with (I forget who) got a note that a package had been attempted to be delivered. There was no tracking number on the slip. He went to the PO to retrieve the package and it was a no-go. He PMed me for the tracking number and when he went back armed with the info he got the package.

I'm not sure of the exact details, but by all accounts it was having the tracking info that allowed him to get the package...whether it was just a psychological motivation for the PO employees or not I can't say. But DC won the day.
