A wine night to remember

A couple of weeks ago I was able to bring together two friends who can really help eachother out professionally. One is an International Art Dealer and the other is a well renowned nature color Photographer, both are wino's and I've been sending cigars on a regular basis to the IAD friend. Dinner and a private screening was held at the beautiful Bernard Maybeck Chick House in the Chabot Valley.

Here's a list of the wines we had that evening, the Salinia is produced by one of our very own CP friends. So I was really working the evening all the way around.

1981 Ruster Welchriesling Trockenbeerenauslese by Kirchknopf

My wine of the night was the Reisling ....... simply awesome!

Sounds like a nice time David.

Was the Reisling the typical German, with a high residual sugar level, or a little on the dry side? That and how much a bottle out of curiosity?

I like some Reislings, but some are just way too sweet for me.

Edit to add: :0 I saw the first few dates on the list, but skipped right over the one on the Reisling. :laugh: Still, how much?

Auslese = The Sweetest
Spatlese = Middle of the road but still generally sweet
Kabinett = The driest of the three

I haven't had a drink in a long time but if my memory serves me correct, these are how some vineyard rate the sugar levels. But then you have some that use Habtrocken, QBA and other terms to describe 'sweetness'.

The sweetness of the Auslese was set off by the acidity of the wine so the balance was outstanding. Supposedly this bottling is available at auctions or charity events only, gold cap and one star (*) on the label. The gentleman who brought it wouldn't devulge the price he paid for it :whistling: .

The 1981 Trockenbeerenauslese was also quite interesting with a lot of herbal notes .... reminded us of a Yeigermeister.

Oh you bet we're on for April, I'm already checking out places. I may have something really special for us this year!
