AAA type organizations aka Auto Clubs

You know the places where for an annual fee they tow your car or bring you gas or change your tire or whatever when you need it?

My AAA memebership is up and I want to see if there are aly alternatives out there that you guys might know of.
 
I've heard MANY MANY people who've tried the "alternatives" to AAA are NOT worth the trouble. Most of them don't have the vast network of towing companies on board therefore from a customer's point of view, they can't compete with AAA.

I have a couple of friends who own garages and the other companies don't reimburse them as well as AAA does so they aren't inclined to join up with these other auto clubs.

If I were you, I'd stick with AAA ;)

Or do like me and buy a car trailer or a tow dolly and be your own tow service :laugh:
 
I have been AAA since the 80's. I buy it for all my kids, too. Since I moved to NY from NJ the service is not so good but I spend all my work time down there anyway.

State farm says roadside is included in their coverage but I haven't used it.

I travel ALOT! When I am stateside, I travel about 1200 to 1500 miles per week. . .and 99% of that is via car.

I have had Auto Club memberships from several sources. . . .Extended warranties, Cell Phone auto clubs, Sears Auto Club, etc. . . NONE OF THEM COMPARE TO AAA!

I purchased my AAA membership in July, and by October, it had already paid for itself (And I only arrived in the states in September) The savings you get with Businesses (From Resturants to Hotels) will pay for the service alone if you travel much.

But when I was in my Motorhome, just east of Memphis, doing 70 MPH, and had a front drivers side blow out. . . AAA was there quickly and took care of everything with minimal effort on my part. They really were great!

I do not work for AAA, and I don't get a "kick back" from them in any way. . .but I will be a member of theirs until I no longer drive. They are that good!

I'll give another :thumbs: to AAA. Although I haven't used an alternative, for ~$5.00/month (regular membership) you can't beat the peace of mind AAA gives you. When I have needed them (which fortunately, hasn't been often) the service is top notch. I'd stick with them unless you have a reason for wanting to switch.

The reason I brought this up is that a) I've had a lot of tow truck drivers complain that AAA doesn't know what it's doing and b) sometimes in my area the wait can be up to 2 1/2 hours.

I bet it doesn't get any better though. How soon do you think the government will go after AAA for unfair trade practices under the Sherman Act?
 
If you are of age, or someone in your family is.... AARP has a fantastic roadside program.
