Absynthe

Anybody here have any experience with absynthe? I've had a bottle of absynthe that I got from canada that was green, had two drinks, and gave the rest away.

I've just come into possession of a "white" absynthe called versynthe from France, I really doubt I'll feel anything. But If I see things and get the urge to cut off my finger I'll let you all know.

A group of buddies and I drank 2 bottles of Absinthe in 2 nights while we were in Amsterdam/Ireland. And I must admit, I got blasted.

A quick search on google regarding "versynthe" revealed this:

"versinthe is 45%, the saq one, absinthe vary from 60 to 80%."

I believe Absinthe is to make or sell in the US but not to consume or possess. Thujone is the active ingredient that makes it different than other alcohols. If you are going to drink it's definently worth buying quality.

I can say this. It is a bunch of BS. There is no hallucigenic properties. Even if they say it does have hallucigenic properties, its a bunch of horse shit in the sense it does anything other than you getting drunk. I've drank it every way possible and including a 3 ounce shot straight. Absolutely nothing other than a quick state of being drunk.

Question, what does this stuff taste like? I remember reading about it's ability to make you go nuts and hallucinate, but never got a review about taste and what cigar goes with it.

I will make it simple. Its a very strong black licorice taste before you water it down and do the sugar and flame. After that is a milder form of black licorice taste depending on how you part it to Absinthe to water ratio.

So by saying you have drank it every possible way means that you have drank every possible formulation of Absithne?

Most of what is sold to tourists and the such, including brands like Hills have on average 1.5 mg of Thujone per Kg. Even some of the cheaper Czech Absinthe has 2 to 2.5mg of Thujone per Kg.

Now what you need to consider is next time try of some Kings Gold which averages 95-100mg of Thujone per Kg. Thats over 60 times the amount of Thujone that most Absinthe's have.

Granted it can cost you close to $250 for a bottle.

On the other hand I have gotten a great buzz from it. It all depends on which product you drink. You have to drink the stuff that was made from wormwood and has a high concentration of thujone. The molecular/chemical structure of thujone is very similar to that found in THC and produces similar effects (not that I would know) but I would say the effects were "very" similar.

We (three of us) drank three drinks each with nothing else in our systems and waited for the buzz......we didn't wait long!

It tasted terrible, like bitter, very strong, Sambuvca (black licorice) This particula brew was 70% alchohol.

Mu buddy got a bottle of Absinthe once. He had it shipped over seas, cost around $90 for a 750ml. We tried it and experienced nothing. Didn't taste too good either, reminded me of Sambuca (sp?)

Oh, and the kind we tried was made from wormwood, he made sure of that before he spent the money.

From what I understand the correct French spelling is without the "e" on the end and either are considered acceptable.

The 2 absinths I've offered are solid middle ones but there are over 120 or more out there to choose from. Right now the one to look for is the JADE PF 1901 for about $65/500ml in Europe. Only a few have rated equal or higher and they are all more expensive. The 1901 has been directly compared to classic 1910 era product and was considered it's equal. I haven't had any myself but this is what I've read in my travels.

I bought the Jade Edouard. My only recommendation is that if you're going to do 'Death in the Afternoon', don't be take Hemingway's recommendation and drink 4-5, drink 3 at most, unless, you like porcelain.
