HARRISBURG, Pa.—A bank has filed a mortgage foreclosure action against a property owned by the mayor of Pennsylvania's financially troubled capital.
Harrisburg's The Patriot-News (http://bit.ly/uWDx1D) reports Metro Bank filed the $52,000 complaint Wednesday.
The Harrisburg property is the former headquarters of Loveship, Mayor Linda Thompson's one-time nonprofit agency that counseled residents on their mortgages. Thompson founded and ran the agency before being elected in 2009 as mayor of Harrisburg, a city of 50,000 residents 100 miles west of Philadelphia. She doesn't live on the property.
Thompson spokesman Robert Philbin says the Democratic mayor was surprised by the complaint. He says Thompson hopes to resolve her dispute with the bank but it's a personal matter with no bearing on her public office.
The city faces severe fiscal problems. Its finances are being directed by a state-appointed receiver.

I love the last two sentences. "it's a personal matter with no bearing on her public office" followed by, "The city faces severe fiscal problems".
