I take cigars out of the cardboard unless they're short timers like Piedra fiver's or something else relatively low rent. All the good stuff gets snuggled up to the wood.
I'm with Wilkey on this one. I recently bought some Trinidad Reyes and Robusto Extras that came in cardboard boxes and they had a distinct cardboard smell that I did not like. It took a month of humidor time to finally bring that tabacco and barnyard aroma to the surface.
