Air Travel

Quickie -

Does anyone know if it's ok to travel with a straight dble blade cigar cutter or if they'll get, um, appropriated.

I recently flown twice out of two different airports and a couple different ones on the way back home.

I put my cigar cutter and lighter in my check in luggage and didn't have a problem. The ceegars stayed with me :D I did get the nice, shiny sticker of the "spot check" of where they open your luggage and rummage through it. However, when I flew back from Tamapa, they didn't check.

To me, I didn't need my cutter or lighter. I'm in a airport so I can't enjoy a stick, even if I wanted to. :(

Hope that helps some

The TSA guidelines allow cigar cutters on airplanes. I have never had a problem with taking mine in my carryon bag. I printed out the TSA page that mentioned them being allowed and carry that with me.

Thanks, it would have been such a shame to see a nice cutter in that TSA freebie bin.

Here's a link to the list, the cigar cutter is on the second page, first item.

Being a frequent travel myself, while bmd's post is correct, you are still subject to the terrific support staff that monitor security...gritty sacarsm intended. Theirattenetiveness, professional and politeness vary not only from airport to airport, but from gate to gate.

While the may be permitted, doesnt mean you wont be hassled or pulled out of line for some extra attention.

I have found the most sure way to have one is have a key ring punch cutter attached to your keys. Read this part carefully, DO NOT TAKE ONE THAT LOOKS LIKE A BULLET!!!.. I mean the ones like Xikar or other small one.

In any case, I would never put a good or expensive cutter in my carry on.

Shortly after 9/11 I almost lost my Xikar. But that's another story.

I read the info from TSA and I saw that they don't allow lighters either in carry on or check in. At least thats how I read it.

But as I said in my previous post, I packed my lighter in check-in and never had a problem (yet). I'm knocking on wood right now.

You can take cutters in your carry on, a bic lighter in YOUR pocket, TRUST me I go through TSA in order to go to work, the bic lighter, small or big, will not set off the detector no matter which airport, if you put it in your carryon they will get get it... Otterbox makes a zippo carrier for your checked luggage. Zippo you say "blech" but just get a butane insert, and you are good to go... Had many friends try it and had great success. Also depending on the airport you can smoke in designated aeras...

Any other travel tips PM me... or which luggage to buy anything like that I will gladly help

Just so you know, it's a really really really terrible idea to try to sneak something pass TSA. Especially, you know, if you actually want to get to your destination. Plus, I'm pretty sure you can still take matches, which includes cigar matches, so there isn't a problem with lighting a cigar that would warrant trying to circumvent current prohibitions.
