Airsoft pistol recommendations?

Thinking about getting an Airsoft pistol for my boys and me to use. Just something to get them going, teach gun safety, aiming, basic targets, etc.

Any advice or recommendations? Propane or CO2? Heard of issues with spring loaded, plus not sure if the youngest would be able to pull it.

Thanks for anything.

Hey John,

The spring loaded ones are really stiff sometimes, at least the good ones. Don't bother with the cheap spring hand gun style, they do fall apart but the more expensive ones are well built. I don't know the name of the ones I have off hand, they've been packed away since I moved.

A pump action shot gun style might work for the youngest as well as the battery powered air guns. Neither is all that accurate but are easy to use and if you get the heavier weight ammo with a bright colour you can adjust easily as you can follow your shot. I'd recommend the heavier weight ammo regardless of what you go with as it aims more true.

Even though the spring ones can be a pain you never have to worry about running out of propellant.

If you go with plastic BBs I'd advise against reusing ammo. Just one BB that shatters on the second or third usage can put little bits of plastic in places you can't get to in your bb gun and damage it.

My brother has one modeled after the Glock 22. It's propane and it is awesome. He loves it and I've gotta say, I found it very fun too. The weight and feel is almost exactly the same as his actual Glock 22.

Something else worth looking into are biodegradable BB's. My brother got them for his gun and they are pretty slick. They are a soy base and are 100% environmentally friendly. Then you don't really have to worry about clean up if you're outside.

Thanks for the info on the soy BBs. Hadn't heard of those.

I looked at a propane one modelled after the 1911 Colt. Felt great in my hand, not sure for the boys. I have the real 45 version of the 1911 for when they're ready, too!

Mike: yeah, I've seen some of the cheap spring hand guns fall apart. I'm leaning towards the propane. Guns seem to be built more realistic and those camping tanks are cheap enough and will last a while.

Any other info is appreciated.
