Almost lost my eyebrows yesterday !

I've had great luck with the lighters and fuel from Little Havana. Specifically, I have one of the Nibo three torch lighters, but my favorite is actually one of these dual flame lighters. Seven bucks and it works great.

The lessons I've learned are (1) use ONLY triple filtered or better fuel; Ronson fuel is a quick way to ruin most torch lighters. LH's King butane is cheap and seems to work great; (2) Purge the lighter before filling it; I use a very small punch to depress the fill stem and allow any compressed air in the tank to escape; (3) Err on the low side when adjusting the flame. Seems more reliable that way.

Just take some wire snips and snip the chain off. For $27 it can't be beat. You can also use it for any welding you need to do on your Colibri :laugh:
 
I use this.
It is a cheap three burner and works well with any butane.
I have had mine for two years with no trouble.

I'm glad that you're okay. I knew someone who accidently burned down his house while trying to fill a Zippo lighter. He accidently got lighter fluid on his hand and when he sparked up his lighter his shirt sleeve caught on fire and it also ignited the curtains next to where he was sitting. This resulted in the whole house burning down. He didn't get hurt, but there was no house left.

Had the same thing happen to my Colibri a few years back. Filled it with nothing but Colibri butane too. Piece of crap, all told. Have a Dupont that my dad gave me that he picked up long ago, and far away which still works like a beaut. But, for carrying around and everyday use, I use standard Bic's or whatever.

Went on a cruise and was in the cigar lounge and in this fella thought he was being real cute by saying to me, "you got a 50 dollar cigar cutter and 3 dollar lighter." Ok, so? What's your point chachi? Funny part of it was this same fella came to me when his little torch lighter crapped out on him and he couldn't get a spark out of it. Tried to be a tough guy about it with me by asking me to just hold my lighter to his so he could get a flame. I'd had about enough of him actually and, as patient of a guy as I am (yeah, right), I just tossed him the lighter and told 'em he could keep it, I've got plenty of 'em. Was done with my stick anyway, so it was great timing. Just goes to show you the mentality over lighters sometimes.

Ya beat me to it, I have had two colibri's crap out on me but the 7 dollar little havana dual flame has been a real trooper. Volcano the color of the metal rubs off a little but for 7 dollars its great. As far as almost losing your eyebrows you are lucky you didnt lose your hand. Maybe next time let the sober person in the room handle your lighter repairs :p :laugh: :laugh:

It was funny 'cause there was this other guy in the lounge at the time who oversaw the whole thing. Guess he was laughing to himself. Real old guy. Next night when I went in, old guy was there. Turns out he's an old retired army medic, so he and I shot the breeze over our sticks. He brought up the lighter thing from the previous night and he mentioned that he too only uses Bics now too. We also both laughed over lessons learned the hard way by carrying Zippos in our pant pocket that tilted upside down or some other cock-eyed way and had some fluid leak out on to your thigh. Nothing like nice little rectangle-sized red mark on your leg from it to teach you otherwise. :laugh:

Also brings to mind that it was a great cruise...and just sitting back with other BOTLS, while the wives, gf's and significant others became cigar widows for an hour or two, as we smoked great sticks, had great booze (although overpriced on that ship), and had great conversation...nothing finer. Anywhere you have it, always great....that just happened to be there on the sea. But, ya know what I mean.
