Got a box I just took a whiff of and it had a strong ammonia smell,, ,very strong in fact...

Any ideas

Never mind

Search is my friend.

One thing I couldn't make out was to allow fresh air to get to the smokes or not.
Any ideas?

Should I leave the box open inside the humi, or closed up?

I'd go with your normal humi prcocedures. Whatever you do now likely includes some level or opening, rotating, checking humidity, fussing, digging. I've never found that ammonia sticks need special care, they just take more time to get ready

My question is.... Should I leave the box closed or crack it open inside my humi to help circulate air within the box of cigars.

I had a box of "err.. umm, well I can't say" and they smelled similar to what you describe, I cracked the lid and let them rest and they are fine now. I opened the cooler to let air circulate a little more than normal.

With any new box of cigars that I'm going to age, I always pull one out of the top and one out of the bottom, to give the smokes a little more "room" to breathe. That, and I look 'em over every couple of weeks to see how they are doing (and basically play with and drool over my stash.... :p ) at which time they get rotated, etc. So far, so good....
