Starting one? This is my 4th one thank you .... lol.
Anyone who cant make the deadline for Stogiemans can send to mine if they want. Last Kare Package we sent out #3 covered Nov.11th and Thanksgiving, the next one is for the holidays ( Xmas, Hannuka, kwanza, New years ) send off date will be around Nov.29th so if ya cant make Stogies theres always room in my box for more. Thanks to the donations of our BOTL & neighbors 101/6 paks = 606 cigars plus assorted sundries went out to our boys overseas. If ya cant send cigars send a card a letter anything ya like to include in the next box I know they will appreciate it.
Well everyone, it looks like the grand total of cigars is around 625 - 650. I have all the stogies double ziplocked and each 2 gallon bag has a couple of air pillows / humi devices in them. I sent an email to 1LT Eliel Pimentel (the contact person in the desert) and asked him to take plenty of pictures for us to view when they get the box and while they are enjoying some of the fine sticks we are sending them. I'm sure this will make the holidays for them go by a little bit easier......
Here is the update of the recent care package we sent to the desert. I sent 1Lt Pimentel an email asking if he recieved the cigars yet. Here's what he had to say:
Charlie,
Did i ever get the cigars!? WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW. Five and a half stars! truly over the top! me and everyone else in the office where i opened the box where completely stunned. we couldn't believe our eyes at the sight of so many and so varied cigars. for the cigar smokers in the shop, it was quite an experience. people were shaking they were so happy. of course, i immediately began to give out cigars. some people walked away with a small bundle of 5-10 cigars, and were as thankful as if i had given them a million dollars. - when they tried to thank me, i told them the story of how we met at the wedding and how you organized the efforts of different folks around the country (showing them the letter)
unfortunately, the effect couldn't be more centralized as it was last time. since i am no longer at the firebase, and i now work by myself in the city, i had to try and spread the joy in the kandahar air base in the two days that i was there. people from the entire brigade staff who smoked cigars would come by and walk away with a nice, self-picked bundle. the excitement of the cigar aficionades drew some people who have never smoked, and they even got excited at the sight of cigars in their hands. the cigar regulars had quite a reaction at the sight of so many cigars. they would shake their heads and bodies, and giggle like children on the first day of school. when they tried to thank me, i told them the story of how we met at the wedding and then i showed them the letter with the names of everyone who made it happen.-- so after satisfying everyone's desires for cigars at the brigade toc, i began to walk around the base with the huge box under my arm, and i would ask
every stranger if they liked cigars. when they said yes, i'd stop, put the box down and told them to search the box for goodies. everyone had the same estatic, incredulous smile. i must have walked around for nearly two hours. i stopped by my old battalion's headquarters and left a sizeable load with different people that were headed to the firebase. --- it should go without saying that the handing out of bundles at many different places, to soldiers belonging to different units will have a multiplying and far reaching effect. that cigar box will bring joy to A LOT of soldiers. i even brought back a decent bundle for the house servants at the governor's house in downtown kandahar (who over a month's time i have introduced to the cigar)
i will try to send out some pics of me opening the box at the office and with the local Afghans enjoying the smokes. you and everyone else have truly outdone yourselves. it was simply over the top. i doubt any cigar package has ever had that many cigars in it. please send my warmest thanks and regards to everyone who contributed. you are all wonderful Americans.
take care and God bless.
i look forward with new intensity to sitting down to a smoke with you in the future.
sincerely,
eliel
As soon as I receive the pictures, I'll post em' to this thread. Thanks again everyone for making some of our finest soldiers day's a little easier......
