So...are you a decent artist?
Are you willing to work for cigars?
If so...read on.

I am looking for someone to illustrate a children's book that I am writing for my nephew's birthday. I'm thinking about some "suess-like" illustrations.
Here's the tough part....it's will probably be 15-20 full size ages of illsutrations, with three or so "scenes" in each page.
For example, in one picture, the artist will need to work in a picture of cows swimming under water, (with fish and maybe a sunken boat in there), a giant woman walking through a field, (or perhaps by some houses), a giant flying hotdog, and a Puple bumble bee.
AND to make it harder (much harder) I only have until the end of July. We could cut down the number of pages if it is impossible with this many. We'll need to start pretty soon if you want the job.

We can negotiate payment, or you could trust me, and I'll come up with a few hundred dollars worth of cigars for you.

Let me know. If it works out, maybe you could do the storyboard for "Tauma Sturgeon II....He's back, and he STILL doesn't make any Friggen Sense."

Thanks,

Josh

Good luck but it sounds like you picked up the wrong pipe!

Wrong pipe? Nope....well, define wrong.

It’s a children’s book. The main character is a little boy who writes stories for the newspaper, but doesn’t always make sure he got it all right…so the paper has stories about all these crazy things.

Hey Josh,

If you can't seem to find anyone, I know someone who's a childrens book illustrator. She does a great job and is super-cool. She's not a cigar smoker, but you guys might be able to work something out, who knows?

Karen's published work

She's got a website too, as you can see she does do 'other work'
www.karengilmour.com

Give her a shout, or me if you'd like the intermediary. I'd be happy to help out.

Cheers,
Rob

I suggest you check out MiamiCubano's latest post and simply cut and paste! It will be a hit with the dad's!

Thanks everyone for the great input and advice. I have heard from a few folks, including a pro, and I fear that I have DRASTICALLY underestimated the amount of time and energy that would go into what I am talking about.
I hope I did not insult anyone with my painfully low (couple hundred bucks worth of cigars) offer of trade and compensation. It came from a place of ignorance, not malice or conceit (and to those who contacted me, I didn't think you were insulted, just hope no one else is out there silent and steamed).
To those who have offered to try out some alternative methods of getting this done, thanks, and I'll be in touch in the next day or two.

Here's an idea.... have your nephew draw the pictures and incoporate them into the book. That way it's a lot more personal to both of you.

The kid is turning 2. Hell, if I wanted an incomprehensible jumble of colors and lines, I would just buy some crayons, drop 50 micrograms, and lock myself in a room.

Thanks for the suggestion, though.
I also want it to be a surprise. One of my favorite things to do with him is to read him bedtime stories and point to the pictures after a read a page, pointing out the things "we" just read about.

You might try pm'ing Rebel Herfer he's a painter or artist as they like to be called. I think he has a web page link on his sig tag that shows his work.

I looked it over (I'm a professional), it is a lot of work in an incredibly small window. You might consider reducing the number of illustrations, or making them simpler.
