I know there have been posts here and there regarding music from time to time. I was curious if there are any other brothers/sisters on the site that are EDM fans. If so who are some of your favorite djs or artists?

I enjoy EDM from time to time, my music collection is very eclectic, no one DJ in particular, but I sneak some into my music list.

I actually am quite a bit. I like most everything from the old Oakenfold days to the new artists on Above & Beyond's AjunaBeats Label as well as Armin Van Buuren's Armada Music Label. I'm always on the prowl for new live sets, if y'all knows any good sources please do share. I usually go to artists' personal sites for podcasts or this website which I feel has a pretty wide variety of good quality and lengthy sets: http://www.livesets.us/

There is some new dubstep d-bag out there named Jono. You should check him out. :whistling:

Back in the day it was Electronic Trance Music. Amon Duul, Jean Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk, Michel Magne, Tim Blake, Patrick Vian, Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze. etc etc. Some of which are quite rare and collectable now.

So Sneeds told me about this thread, and I thought I'd come up on here. I just had an EDM album release on iTunes, and I've got stuff up on sites like SoundCloud, MixCloud, and Youtube. I don't want to be a walking commercial, so if you're interested, let me know. I actually got Jonesy to say he liked my stuff, and another CP guy loved it enough to post a review on iTunes of it.

Here's a quick video of my latest song I've got brewing:

As far as artists I like, I'm a big Seven Lions fan. He's a really nice indie guy that's coming up from my area. I also have been a big deadmau5 fan (even if he's kinda douchey), Tiesto, Armin Van Buren, Oakenfold, Daft Punk, DJ Doran, Nero (just saw them a month ago), Amnezia (indie girl from UK), a guy named Jason Payne from Amsterdam that did a pretty sweet dubstep remix of one of my tracks, and a few more. There's a ton of good artists out there, it's just time consuming picking through the crappy 12 year olds on SoundCloud who download a cracked version of Fruity Loops and then write on their bio that theyve been "producing" for 4 years or whatever.

Anyways, cool topic!

Doggy, Electronic Dance Music does not mean a taser to the nuts.

Check out Kromly on Soundcloud, he should be dropping an EP real soon.....

I made it to the Skrillex "Cell" concert last month in Antwerp, it was pretty amazing! Pretty Lights opened up for him, I liked his (pretty lights) set at the show, but he must have remixed his stuff because it is just not the same energy off the cd....
Listening to the Canada guys right now, Excision and DatSik

SoulD! I will be checking out your shizz right now!
Shit J, link me to your sound cloud, there are a lot oh Jono (s) out there

Wow. For some reason I wasnt expecting quite this much of a response. I am a huge Oakenfold fan. If I was to catergorize my style as a dj it would be Progressive Trance Every once in a while his new pod casts get a bit to "poppy" for my taste but I still enjoy everyone. His Full on Fluoro mixes are pretty good.

I'm really hooked on Gareth Emery right now and have been since his colaboration with Ocean Lab (Above and Beyond) for "On a Good Day" extended mix. I cant wait for the Group Therapy stage!

I never really got in to Tiesto too much. I used to play out Flight 643 on a regular basis back in the day when I was spining.

Armin is really good. I can't wait for the ASOT set at EDC this year.

I do like Deadmau5. As far as his "douchebaggery" I think that is one of the reasons that I like him. As an artist he is incredibly accesable to his fans. I have made respect for him for that.

I'm just going to put this out there...not a dubstep fan. Souldog...I do however give you mad props with your production and would love to hear all of the stuff you have made. What hardware/software are you using? Most everyone that I'm going to EDC with is going because they recently discovered Skrillex...to each his/her own I suppose.

As far as sites that I go to for live mixes are concerned...aside from the mentioned previously I have Di.fm bumping at work almost everyday. I find that the artists personal web pages tend to be best unless your looking for a specific set from the previous weekend. Have I mentioned EDC yet :) ? I've spent a lot of time over the last week listening to the stuff from EDC NY from this previous weekend getting ready for Vegas.

Here's a site that has a lot of good sets from that show.

I can't seem to get into Deadmau5...and I have tried. I do put him on a lot when I go run, I love the steady beat. But I really enjoy the filthy base, hard wobbles, and glitch of some super nasty DupStep.

Also, as far as Skrillex goes, I know he is the "Hot" think in Dub - - but I also thinks he has one of the sickest skill sets around. N one ever seems to like the the artist that "Blows up" but I am not ashamed to say that I like him.
I was turned on to Dub by Kromly, you can find him on sound cloud. I am waiting for him to get big, and then need someone to provide Personal Security....he better ask his cousin!

I have been a psycho deadmau5 fan for forever, so I like him. As far as Skrillex goes, I actually really like him when he first came out, but I think all the influx of popularity and seeing dubstep on Microsoft ads and on SyFy and all that just turns me off to the real mainstream portions of that genre...

Here are my links to all the crap I do for the guys that asked:

I wish I was going to EDC, I've never been, so it'd be an experience. Also, to clarify on my standings on Skrillex, I think the guy still is a nice fellow, he comes from a background I understand (hardcore), but his new direction in rasta dubstep is too weird, too "pot friendly" for my taste, but that's just ME.

I'm pretty excited about what's happening with my crap. Got a job offer in Vegas the other month, another offer in Virginia for a different label, next month my music's going to be featured at the Isle of Wight festival, and there's another dubstep producer in Amsterdam that just did a remix for a track that will be playing that next month in Amsterdam somewheres. I think it's cool, I'd love to make it big someday, but more than anything I make music I like to listen to.

Tim, I like what I'm hearing from Kromly! I'm gonna follow him. ;)

I think it's funny when people like a band until their hard work and talent finally pays off and they become "popular."

To each his own.

Is it about the music- or is it more than that?

No, it really is about liking the music you like. I think people take the anti-bandwagon idea a little to far.....

SoulP.

Kroms is my cousin, lives in Austin and has an amazing head on his shoulders, full load of classes at UT, Rugby, track deadlines for the EP and side projects, and still finds time to DJ in Austin and Houston, as well as finding the time to be a young 20 something....I love that Kid!

Admittedly I also fall prey to this bias myself, but in general I still don't believe that radio stardom means that you represent the best in your genre. Sure Skrillex is talented, but imHo (with a capital H) Skrillex like David Guetta, is more pop-y, mainstream, marketable than he is talented. Again not to say he's bad, but not nearly as good as say the godfather of dubstep, Skream, who radio stardom wise is nowhere to be found. Funny enough, I've found that Pandora is a good source for finding the roots of a genre, aside for some slight repetitiveness, they can pull up a reasonably good catalog for on demand.

Discussion aside, I look forward to checking out the links you all posted. Surprised by the number of responses myself, good topic OP.

MX - Your cousin sounds great, I went to UT myself, will definitely be listening into his stuff soon.

I understand your point completely, and Skrillz is getting a bit poppy....
I have never really liked Skream or Rusko but I love Cookie Monsta!

ETA: I am 100% into Excision right now...honestly how filthy can a Canadian be?????

Kromly just moved to Houston for the Summer, not sure how that plays into his EP release, but I guess we will see.

...and let us not forget Vangelis and Isao Tomita, two major pioneers of electronic music ;)
