Any harm in having fun with a spammer?

So I have a couple items listed on Craigslist, and I've gotten a reply from someone who's obviously trying to pull a scam. Or maybe I'm just racist and stereotyping, because their typing skills and grasp of the English language is awful. And they're insisting that they can pay with a cashier's check and are asking me all sorts of questions that are easily answered if they read the ad. (Such as "what is the price on item you selling", when the price is listed in 3 places.)


So is there any harm in having some fun and emailing back and forth to see how far this can go? Or is there any way I could lead this joker on, then get them busted by the cops?
 
There's so much of this crap Gonz, you'd really be wasting your time. I'd report them to Craigslist and be done with it. Of course, tell them to go f... themselves.

X2, but if you want to spend the time I thinkyou mayh be able to get a little fun out of him/her! Good luck with this situation!
 
I'd say have some fun and get a few laughs that you can share with the rest of us here! I once entertained a nice dialog with one of those guys who wanted to send me a check for a few thousand dollars, only to mail him the remaining cash back. It was pretty fun to ask all the pressing questions and watch his off-the-wall answers as to why he just can't pay for the merchandise without overpaying me!
 
I had one of these guys send me 8 different fake cashiers checks last year, its fun to play with them.

There is an article in today's NY Times about scamming the spammers. Interesting reading, you must have a bit of time to pull this off.

Go for it Gonz...I did it when one of the wanted to buy my daughter's $20 bike (we told her she could sell it and get the $$$), pay by wire transfer and arrange to have some one pick it up for them.

As long as they appraoched you, have at it.

It can be fun.....
 
I sold a very expensive item on ebay a couple of months ago, and I got a spam message, saying I was a POS and some other 4 letter words... I replied, "How am I spamming?" and then my account was hacked.

My advice is delete those messages and move on (I don't know how craiglist works) but by replying, the message I gave them what they needed to hack my account.
