Any Perdomo fans out there?

Hi, I was wondering who out there likes Perdomos? Champagne is one of my favorites. Any recommendations on similar cigars from other brands?

I'm a fan of the Patriach, I prefer the Corojo to the Maduro though. I also have a stock of Frescos for yardgars which I find great for a quick smoke. I'm looking forward to exploring their entire line but have only tried those so far though I do have 2 Champagnes resting in the humi to try. My experience with smoking, as well as my diversity of cigars, is limited though so keep that in mind.

Never tried the Champagnes, but have tried ESVs, Edicion De Silvios, Habanos, and the Perdomo 2 Limited Editions (current release). The 2s and the Habanos were ok, but really didn't do anything for me.

I really like the Edicion De Silvios though they are way over priced. Also think these in the naturals are considerably better than the maduros. I want to try the cameroons, but have yet to find decent deal. You can get the naturals and maduros from CI's Make Me Offer for 13-15 bucks/stick for the Double Coronas which is still probably a little steep. The smaller vitolas should be less.

So far my favorite Perdomo is the ESV Maestro which has a cameroon wrapper. I like the 'regular' ESVs also, and they are available as 2nds which is nice.
 
I like the lot 23's. Although perdomo is not one of my go to brands I was really suprised when I tried one. Other then that, cant say any of their others really excite me.
 
Champagnes are a very good cigar,,,,,,Perdomo quality has improved greatly over the past few years
 
I love most all things I've tried Perdomo. The ESV '91s in all wrappers are excellent. Also fond of the Habano Corojos (Maduros not so much) and the Lot 23 Connies. The Champagnes are great for a mild smoke, maybe my favorite mild smoke, though I rarely go there. The old Sun Growns are great too. I hope they don't screw up the blends in the changeover from the old Reserve lines to whatever they're replacing them with.
 
I've liked Perdomo just fine over the years. As noted in my profile, I think the ESV's are some of the best smokes they make. I don't care as much for lower end cigars that they make but they're still not bad.

I always liked the whole Reserve line. They made four in that category and all of them were pretty good. The Champagne, as mentioned earlier, is a very nice, milder smoke. I had one the other day. The one I miss most is the Silver Label Camaroon. They discontinued this label a while back. I guess they just became too expensive to make. I only have two or three of those left. Oh well. They also made a Red Label Maduro and the White Label Sun Grown called Cuban Cafe'. Both of these cigars were more full bodied and always consistently good. I still have a couple of the maddies in the red cello and am guessing they are 2-3 years old.

Anyway, it has always seemed to me that avid cigar smokers seldom speak well of the Perdomo line in general and I've never understood why. They've always been good consistent cigars for me. Even the newer Habanos line are good and priced better than the older Reserve line. Not a bad cigar either.

So yeah, there are some Perdomo fans here. We just don't speak up very often. :blush:

Quite a few years back, Perdomo made an interesting looking, small figuardo that was coffin shaped. I liked that cigar. The rest of his stuff, not so much.

The ESV '91 maduros are very good.
The Lot 23 is better in maduro, but still one dimensional, IMHO.
The La Tradicion maddies and cammies are quite good.
The Champagnes are good, for a mild smoke.

Other mild smokes are Macanudo, PI, etc. Not my cup of tea.

I think that the silver label's more of a grey, myself. Yes, the Reserve Cameroon was great. If I recall correctly, it was a tweak and upgrade of the old Perdomo2 cameroon - no slouch in its own right. Someone in the Star Car pass lucked out, because I only have 3 left. The white label ("cuban cafe"/sungrown wrapper) packed a punch too.

You can find the odd box of the Reserve line at online vendors. Not many, though. I think that the Cameroon is out in all sizes; but I saw a few boxes of the Sungrown in E (epicure - a fat toro) a few weeks ago.

The issue with Perdomo is that he's done a few iffy low-end blends (with the exception of the Lot 23), and his top-line blends aren't really comparable to others at the same price point. There's no shame in producing some very solid mid-priced blends, though - CAO seems to do very, very well with that market position, but they're very consistent in that every CAO blend (other than a few one-offs, like Vision and Sopranos) is at roughly the same pricepoint.

My only beef with the La Tradicion Reserves was at the B&M, the price point was a little rich. However, with event deals, and on-line buys, you could cut that cost significantly. That's about the only way I would buy them.

It would be nice to score a few more Cammies though, before they are no more.
 
Only had the Habano Corojo and the Lot 23 Maduro. Lot 23 Maduro with a couple months age is actually a pretty tasty smoke. Someone said one dimensional earlier, and I think that's more or less true. But one dimension of decent flavor ain't bad every now and then.
 
I've tried the Edicion de Silvio, Champagne, La Tradicion Cameroon, the ESV '91 in natty and maduro, Lot 23, and the old Estate Seleccion (pre-ESV '91). Can't say any blew me away, but the old Estate Seleccions are pretty good, and I think I have a couple left. Not a fan, but not a hater either.

I'd try CAO, Torano, La Aurora, Gurkha, and Oliva (as you know per your intro).

But, what I'd really do is this. You get a nice selection of sticks, make a new friend, and begin to become part of the community.
