So in my never ending pursuit to try new things, I believe I'm going to get involved in Rugby. A guy I work with has been playing for 10 years or better and pretty much has me talked into it.

I stay in pretty good shape with a lot of weight training etc...now I just have to get some speed back.

The next season doesn't start until this fall, but I'm anxious to try it out

Played a little in high school...but I prefer to keep my balls healthy so I stayed with nicer less brutal sports like football :D

i hope you enjoyed your teeth while you had them :D
i like to watch aussie rules on tv...that's as close you'll see me get to that type of sport.

Football less brutal - you got to be kidding. You can only tackle a player when he has the ball in rugby, whereas in football, you tackle and annihilate everyone else on the field. When they are all taken out lying all over the place, only then do you start looking to tackle the ball carrier.

Played football all 4 years. Middle linebacker. I've smacked people all over the field and loved it, but man that was 25 pounds of padding strapped to me.

Them rugby players take their shit to a whole different level. ;)

I never played it officially but I played in a few scrimmages with my buddies collage team. It will definitely get you into better shape if you can avoid the massive drinking that usually goes along with the game. As far as compared to football, rugby is far more taxing on your body imo. I got my ass handed to me in rugby. Nothing like a sport where you can punch someone in the face and only have to sit on the sideline for 3 minutes as your penalty if that.

I agree, rugby is more taxing - non stop running and tackling. However, you know where your tackle is coming from and to expect it when you have the ball. In football you get tackled from all angles and without the ball. Football IMO is far more dangerous as a contact sport.

Hey Brian, stop arguing with me :p ;)

I maintain my position. Much rather have some running back trying like hell to run me over with both of us all padded up then have some skinny little guy trying to jab his bony ass self into my non-protected body

Either way Dr. BBQ, I know plenty of guys who regularly play and they all love it :)

Too funny Robert. Ok, we will agree to disagree. ;)

Love rugby, played all through High School.
I was the hooker (here come the jokes !), brutal position!

A lot of running ! A LOT, expecially for the forwards.

Stopped playing when I hit 40. I agree that football is safer, alot safer.

Play through college, was a hooker as well, and played all three sides. I do not know if it is more dangerous then football. Pads I believe let you hit alot harder then in rugby where it is more of a grapple to the ground. But the amount of injuries per game is higher in rugby since you get alot of broken fingers, torn ears, split lips and stuff like that but alot of it is minor in the grand scheme of things. It is alot of fun, but remember this..

If you are on the ground you are dirt, LOL, my first game i did not understand this and i got into a fight because i saw an opposing player step on one of our players (not rake).

If you like contact sports you will like it.
