I live on the Windward side of the island here, and I've never seen a flying trampoline! (or a cop in a corn field for that matter)

Corn Field Monsters. That is why he had his gun out. Don't tell me you have lived in the south as long as you have, and haven't heard of them. The Officer probably didn't want to scare your precious little one.

Same reason you see scarecrows. Ever see crows perched on a scarecrow? Yep, don't work for them. But does keep the Corn Field Monsters away. I'll bet you;ve never seen a Corn Field Monster in a field with a Scarecrow. Use a printout of Jon's face, with his moustache of awesomeness. That should work.
