Growing too fast.
07/05/09 - I slept in late this morning, so by the time I got outside to put fire to this Anejo 46, it’s already 82F and 76% humidity. Can definitely feel the high humidity too, just really muggy. The wrapper on this cigar is very dark, coarse, and not much by way of oils with one prominent vein running the length. It’s very firm and feels a little light in the hand, and with the cap punched I find the draw slightly loose with a taste that of oatmeal.
With fire to the foot, first draw has a fairly strong spice on the back of the throat with the smoke itself full-bodied, so much so I get an immediate head rush…whoa! After a few more draws, the smoke mellows becoming smooth and creamy, which I find is typical with most Anejo. The flavor is incredibly rich and has a sweet twang on the palate that is delicious, making me smack my lips. Notes of cocoa, wood, and worn leather come through with the finish very good, but somewhat short so far.
The burn is razor sharp with a strong, light gray ash forming. Hitting the halfway mark, a nice black pepper spice is still hitting the back of the tongue and throat just right. The smoke continues to be a good full body, and I have to go fairly easy as the somewhat loose draw is producing a ton of smoke that is basically kicking my arse. :laugh: Flavors are consistent as previously described, very rich and delicious with the finish excellent upon exhale, however remaining short on the palate.
I’m not sure if there’s a next stage up from full-bodied strength, however if there is, this cigar has definitely moved into it. Wow is this a powerful smoke! Even with 5 years downtime, the strength is just incredible in the final third. The burn has continued to be razor sharp with a light gray ash forming and flavors still consistently rich. I’m finding the finish is now more lasting on the palate after exhaling with a really good twang to it.
This was an excellent Anejo, and I believe the most powerful I’ve smoked to date. This would have been much better suited for an after dinner smoke later in the evening, however the rich cocoa flavor matched well with my coffee, a thoroughly enjoyable smoke to say the least.

After reading that, I think this week is the week to fire up the last one, the No. 77. I have my review of the No. 50 done, I just need to post it up and upload the pictures. I'll try to do that tomorrow before I smoke the 77. The No. 55 out of the two so far was my favorite, hopefully the 77 knocks it off the fence though as I really want it to be as good or better than the 55...that thing was amazing!
