Growing too fast.
After a good ‘ol sausage biscuit, I topped off my coffee and headed out to the back porch to put fire to this AVO LE 08. It’s supposed to be a hot one today with temps reaching close to the 100F mark. However, it’s nice out this morning at 75F and a soft breeze blowing. Inspecting the AVO, it has a medium to light brown Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper with not much by way of oils that I can see. It’s somewhat coarse with one prominent vein running the length. I find it very firm when squeezed, a bit light in the hand, and with the cap punched the draw is quite loose with a sweet tobacco taste coming through.
After getting the foot burning good, first draw is very powerful with a strong spice and the smoke full bodied. Actually took me a little by surprise as I wasn’t expecting that much power. After a couple more draws, the spice subsided slightly, however the body seems to remain quite full to my palate and very good I must say. There’s sweetness on the lips and in the smoke with tastes of cinnamon spice, wood, and citrus flavors coming through.
The burn is very sharp with a medium gray ash that actually falls off very easily. Although the draw has very little resistance, it is still working well with a good full-bodied smoke flowing effortlessly and in great abundance. I’m still getting a nice spiciness in the smoke and very sweet, woody flavors with hints of citrus. I have to say there’s not much by way of richness in the smoke to my palate, however still quite good with a decent enough finish that is somewhat lasting. I will also say I’m detecting a slight bitterness coming through as well.
Towards the end, flavors intensified somewhat seemingly becoming stronger, darker in taste. Powerful smoke poured from the cigar, actually making me feel somewhat woozy. I usually like such power, however it’s just too early in the morning for me. I’m also still detecting a slight bitterness.
This was a good cigar with sharp burn, loose draw that still worked well, consistent sweet flavor of wood and citrus, with a decent enough finish left on the palate. It really didn’t knock my socks off so to speak, but still was a good smoke. I was quite surprised at how spicy and full-bodied the smoke was all the way through, really strong even for my palate. I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to find these, however I would put fire to another if I came across one and would definitely be a late afternoon smoke.
