Anyone know of any good B&M's in Bangor? I'll be up there next week on business. Also looking for some good restaurants. Any recommendations are appreciated.

:0

Sorry but I'm 99% sure there are no active members from Maine here. There was one guy a couple of years ago but he's long gone. The closest person to Maine is Devil Doc who's in Concord, NH.

I've been to Bangor a couple of times, but it was long before I started smoking cigars. Bangor is a very SMALL city (population is only 30,000 or so)so chances are you won't find much. Bangor "International" airport only has one runway. :0 I don't even know how that airport ever got "international" status. There's a town near me in Connecticut called Vernon, population 30,000 and it only has one smoke shop.

I don't know what the smoking ban laws are like up there but this being New England and all  (Massachusetts and Connecticut have pretty much banned smoking in ALL public bars and restaurants) Maine may not be too far behind us.

You’re from Texas? Boy, are you in for a cultural shock!! I can’t help you; there ain't much reason to go to Bangor,'cept of course when you want to go to Bar Harbor, which you should visit if you have the opportunity.

Doc.

Wow! There's a web-site, http://www.bangormaine.gov/

Here I thought the drive to Augusta was bad. Good luck up there and enjoy the "...fine accommodations ;) ; world-class restaurants  ; great historic, cultural and recreational attractions; and special events, such as the American Folk Festival on the Bangor Waterfront ??? ".(from the web-site)

I was in Freeport last year and the woman at the smoke shop said the state is almost 100% smoke-free, even smoke shops. There was one cigar bar in Portland that was grandfathered in and that's all I'm aware of. That's a long haul from Bangor!

oh ya, Bangor is certainly a "unique" place. i hope you enjoy people watching, as their isn't much to do up there. as far as smoke shops, it's been years since i have been "down east".

Bill: FYI: they divert aircraft up to Bangor that are in route to Boston and Bradley that have potential "problems" aboard. F15's out if Otis AFB or F16's out of Vermont usually escort these problem aircraft to Bangor.

You're probably flying up but on the off chance you land in Boston and are driving, if you're coming up 95 from Mass, through NH, into Maine, get off at NH exit 1, seabrook NH, take a right of the exit, about a 1/2 mile off the exit to a set of lights and take another left. About 200 yards on the right is The Gold Leaf, Good walk-in humi, big selection. However, if you want padrons or davidoffs you need to go about another 200 yards and on the left is 2 guys smoke shop (not as stocked up as the salem nh store but still has a lot of good stuff.) There are a couple you would pass in Portsmouth, closer to the NH/Maine border but they run their RH way to high and you will need to let sticks from there sit for a few weeks.

I had a GF who moved up there. Went to see her once about 25+ years ago and can't say I remember much about the town, it was pretty dull back then.

Bring your travel humidor, only smokes you will probably find in Bangor will be at the local drug store! I live in northern NH and have to drive 1 to 2 hours to find a good B&M. UPS delivers most of my inventory. Enjoy your trip, order the lobster! (Pronounced "lob-sta" by the locals. You know, when in Rome!)

i know this will sound stupid but are there direct words that B&M stands for like ISOM ( Island South Of Maiami )for example or is it just like HERF simply has a meaning of cigar store ?

"Brick & Mortar." It's what I think is a silly slang term for a cigar shop or any retail shop as opposed to an on-line or catalog retailer. One of the shops I patronize regularly is in a wood frame structure so personally never use this term for a cigar shop but apparently others use it quite regularly. You also won't see me calling Cuban cigars "ISOMS" because in the opinion of many, it's another silly slang term.

Was in Bangor, Maine last year. Actually, we rented a house in Searsport. There is nothing as far as cigars are concerned. People even frown at you for smoking outdoors. My best bet was to walk down to the harbor and smoke on the shore.

I echo the sentiment that Bar Harbor (Baah Harba to the locals) is a neat place to visit, as well as Camden Maine further South.

Lobster is cheap and readily available.

The coolest was our ride on the "CAT" which is the worlds fastest catamaran Ferry that runs into Nova Scotia. It was an interesting experience. It goes out of Bar Harbor and is in Nova Scotia in a couple of hours. Took a day tour around Nova Scotia and were back by 10 PM. Stopped and picked up a few ISOMs at a shop there.

Thanks for the input guys. Sounds like I need to find a better place to do business.

Another guy I work with went up a week early and has sent me his reports. No smoking allowed anywhere. Not even on the outside patios of the pubs. Funny, I thought Maine was in the US of A. Apparently we sold it to the commies when I wasn't looking...
