My birthday is in one month and although I am not huge on birthdays, I was hoping to treat myself to a few good cigars. I've not branched out very much in the cigar realm and would love to hear your recommendations.

I really love the medium body types, Punch Rare Corojo has been my favorite cigar, but I also love the creaminess of RyJ's, nutty Macanudo, and many mixes in between and around. I would love to find some new cigars that I enjoy as much and I figure you guys are the ones to ask.

So, what do you reccommend and where can I get them?

First, Welcome to the CPBB!

If no one has mentioned it yet, just like the taste of a cigar is subjective to each person, so is the body of a cigar. The manufacturers rate the body of the cigars they produce based on what the wrapper, blend and filler are. The body of a cigar may be preceived differently by each smoker for any number of reasons.

Several websites have search features where you can look for a cigar by size, wrapper, country of origin, body, etc. Even if you don't make your purchase from that site, you can still use their search function to get some ideas. Two of the larger sites that have this search feature are, www.JRCigars.com, and www.famous-smoke.com/cigars/index.cfm.

JR Cigars and Famous Smoke are also good sites for finding a huge variety of cigars at great prices. You might also want to try www.CigarsInternational.com.

And this LINK has a list of cigars categorized as Mild, Medium or Full to give you some general ideas.

I hope THIS LINK will help introduce you to cigars in the best way possible.

I'll agree that taste is subjective. But as a fellow newb, and also liking medium bodied cigars, I'll throw a few suggestions out. If you don't like them, you can just send it right on back.

Fuente Hemingways - any size but the short story is amazing,
Ashton VSGs
La Gloria Cubana serie R's maduro

hope that helps, just my $.02

Thanks fellas.

Is that Ashton VSG heavy? The few Ashton's I've had I could only smoke half of before they got really bitter to me.

Hopefully you're not just smoking them too fast. I haven't tried a VSG yet (although I have one sleeping in the humidor), but most of the cigars that I've tried only seem to get a bitter taste if I smoke them too fast.
