It's been one heck of a couple weeks for my wife and eye (hehe...thought eye'd make a funny). :D This past Monday we arrived at the doctor's office at 8:00 a.m., and she went back around 9:00 a.m. About 12:00 p.m. a nurse was walking by and just happened to let me know she was doing okay and was getting ready to go back. She had been back there for three hours waiting! Around 1:00 p.m. the lady at the front desk yells at me, "Hey, your wife is sitting outside waiting on you!" I got up and looked out and sure enough she was sitting out on the sidewalk in a wheelchair.

I got her in the car and she was telling me what had happened while back there. They had really done a number on her trying to get an IV in her arm, hurt her pretty bad. After sitting there for the three hours, they rolled her in and when they started to cut on her, she could feel everything. She said the nurse looked at her IV and said, "Oh, I'm so sorry. It looks like it was blocked the whole time." WTF?? They went to sticking her again and gave her more than the usual dose to try and get her numbed up quicker.

I got her home and she's been extremely sick this whole past week. Shaking, nauseated, extremely pale and weak. I've had to rush her back to the doctor twice this week. She's doing much better today, eating and moving around the house well. She's actually having trouble seeing out her "good" eye now. Dr said it was because the other eye was having to adjust to the other seeing now. She's able to see better out of the eye, but it's still blurry. We're hoping it'll clear up and she'll be able to see much better. <sigh> No more sneaking up on her left side anymore. :D

I took these today. Freakin' pissed me off pretty good when she pulled up her sleeve and said, "Look at my arm." Her other arm isn't as bad, but is still very bruised as well.

I'm glad you guys are home and she is on the mend. I've been in and out of the hospital 3 times over the past three months with my wife. When your family is healthy, you have everything.

What a bunch of azzhats!I work in a Drs. office as a m.a., x ray tech.
Part of my job is phlebetomy .I see at least 2 "good veins" .
You should have a talk with the Dr. and let him know you are not happy at all.

edit for grammar

I'm lucky to have prominent veins, but I have a few friends who have a lot of trouble with IV's. That sounds like a really miserable time, but it sounds like the procedure was a success? Hope she keeps improving!

Sorry to hear about the vein thing, but it sure sounds like she's on the right road now. You've been in our prayers and will continue to be until everyone is healthy again. Good luck and go light up a goodie!!

Very good to hear that she is better. I hope that is one of the last times she has to visit the doc. :)
Thoughts are with her fast recovery. Have a great weekend.

I do Iv's for a living working on an ambulance. your wife has massive veins! how they missed is beyond me almost to the point of malpractice looking at her arms and then starting the procedure without first seeing if she was numbed up!

EDIT after reread--> especially because of the way they treated her, leaving her ALONE OUTSIDE IN A WHEELCHAIR!!!!!. I would suggest going to see a lawyer. You may have a chase. Not totally sure but it is worth looking into.

Wow! That's crazy. Hope everything is on the mend. I don't know you but have read many of your posts and reviews. Your daughter is a cutie too, btw.

My wife has tiny veins and each time she's given birth they've had a heck of time getting IVs into her arm. Our girls are 5 and 3 and our son is 1. When our 3 year old was born, my wife looked practically like a heroin addict or something. It took the anesthesiologist to finally hit the vein (on the first try) compared to the poor nurse. She looked to be about 2 years from retirement. She felt bad about it but I wish she wouldn't have tried so hard. I felt worse for my wife.

Best wishes.

As a former phlebotomist, there's not much excuse for that. I can see a fat median cubital vein just from the picture. I couldn't have thrown a dart into that one from 20 feet!

Glad to see she is home and doing a bit better, the fact they left her out in the wheel chair is bull$hit and I'm no phlebotomist but hell I can see some good veins there.

Hope all goes well with her and no more trips to that Dr. office.

It's good to hear things are looking up Greg. The same thing happened to my wife when she was in labor with the princess. It seemed like it took forever to find the vein and there was blood everywhere. I almost went apesh*t. I remember it took 45 minutes for the anesthesiologist to get the epidural in when she gave birth to our son.... freakin' morons!
