Being a grown-up is such a drag!

Just gotta vent for a minute... Things are tight around here. Yes, I've been fortunate enough to have my artwork featured in a couple magazines recently, but folks aren't knocking each other down to place orders. All in good time, though. But to further complicate matters, a couple really good real estate deals have fallen through for my wife. That's our "predictable" income. Again - not complaining; simply venting.

So, nothing calms me down and erases a stressful day more than a good cigar and a Bogart movie in the evening. Last night it was an Exodus Silver and High Sierra. Ahhhhh... The eye-roller is that the end of my stash is well within sight. You've been there: about 10 sticks left and no disposable income to replenish. I'd like to say that cigars are one of life's necessities that simply cannot be eliminated. But when it's between them and electricity, well...

Things will turn around soon. I can feel it in my bones. Just need to decide what types of special ocassions justify one of my remaining smokes. Maybe one for every 10 painting orders? It's just a drag being grown-up and not having the option of your mommy fixing it! Anyone else (besides college students) going through this?

Just answer "yes" and make me feel better! :p

I was self-unemployed for most of 10 years in the 80's. It was a time when I absolutely needed the flexibility. I was burned out at the end, sold the business, and opted for the more predictable paycheck. If you can't afford a bundle of cigars, you should relegate your passion to part time and consider more productive endeavors.

Screw saying yes!!!! I been where you are and it sucks!!! I got to cut back a little anyhow. Send me your address via email and I will send you some smokes. I don't have the greats but I can send you ten of what I smoke. You will be doing me a favor taking them and will get a deep thank you from my wife. HOOOAAHH!!

Guys - I realize now how my post reads: "have pity on me and send me free smokes!" I assure you that was not my intention.

I too have been self-employed for the past decade. The automotive art is simply coming along at the tail end of that. I've had many years as a successful graphic designer; but yes - the time has come for a more predictable income. I've got my feelers out there! I'd like to try my hand at landscape design. We'll see...

(I have removed my address {that was listed in this spot} due to the misunderstanding. Again, my appologies to all...)

I had mixed feelings about your thread until I read the last post. Now, I'm more convinced than ever you're a shameless mooch.

Waaaaa......I'm a starving artist, and while I sure don't want anyone to send me any smokes since I'm too worthless and pathetic to buy my own, here's my address.

You're a real piece of work. You remind me of a guy who used to post here named Purobrat.....

I, however, can afford to buy a smoke now and then so I'm off to have one.....B.B.S.

Glad I wasn't the only one who thought that.

I also didn't realize that my profile didn't list my address. Ooops! Now if I post it, does everyone promise to not send me pity smokes? Good. I trust you all. That would be an assault on my manhood. The following is strictly for next year's Christmas mailings:

edited to remove mailing address

I would be especially offended by ISOMs. (Yes, I'm joking.)
It is a bit moochy. Non-moochy would have been to withold one's address to keep to the topic that this thread is ostensibly about.

" Being a grown-up is such a drag!, the reality of running out of smokes..."

Your 42 years old, you've been grown up for 20 years!

Guys - I really am kidding around here. I was venting and tried to clarrify that. I wish I could hit "rewind" and unpost this! It was just a silly comment that didn't come across well in the written form. I'd like to appologize for all the misunderstandings I seem to have caused. I'm truly sorry!

BBS - I assure you I'm niether worthless nor pathetic. Thank you though for labeling me and showing me your true colors. I'll make it a point to not bother you again. If it makes any difference, the appology goes out to you as well. I hope you're enjoying your smoke. In the future, I would appreciate your name-calling in the form of a PM.

You could, you know, edit your previous post and delete your address like Wilkey recommended and whatnot...

I totally understand the feelings you all have about Danny coming off as moochy, and this last post of his was a bit over the top. However, please cut him some slack. When I read his first post, I did not get the impression that he was asking for free smokes. SJM felt his pain and of his own volition decided to help him out, as well as theHatguy. I never read anything in the first post that directly expressed nor implied he was looking for a handout. Although his second post isn't helping my argument any. If this happens again, then I guess I'm a fool for giving people (such as Danny) the benefit of the doubt.

edited - deleted Danny's address

I was doing that very thing as you made your post. Thanks all the same for the tip.
