I have been considering a new occupation, and started my training by looking for some books on the subject. This is the one I have wanted to get my hands on, but it seems like it is near IMPOSSIBLE to find it.

Has anyone had the honor of gracing the pages of this fine piece of literature? Is the hype real?

While I wouldn't become a professional gambler, I would seriously have some interest in reading this book. I'd love to understand theories behind it.

Wow $250? But it is an investment if you're going to use it. I wonder what could be in there that the casinos couldn't adjust for though?

Feels good to work at a library right now

I guess it's possible but, with only 500 copies apparently ever printed, it seems highly unlikely you'll find this book at the library.

Not if you have access to the library of Congress. :D LINKY

Also, you may be able to go through Interlibrary Loan service. If I find it and I already did. Just need to know if they are willing to send it to me right now. I will PM you.

That's the second book that was published in 2007. I think Jason's looking for the original that was published in 2000.

From my understanding the original one is outdated which is why they came out with the newer one. I will research it a little more. Most of the time books such as informational books, get better and more informative than the original ones, Education is dynamic (always changing). But like I said I will give this more research. Unlike Cigars sometimes, where the original one is better than newer ones.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like that's the case here. According to some of the gambling message boards these books appear to be much different, with the original being much better with different and more detailed information. Besides, if a new and improved version could be had for half the price, why would used copies of the old one be selling for easily double the price?

edit: I guess this one is like cigars. ;)

PhilRay, the math skills are fine. I can count to 20 no problem, 21 if I'm naked.

The fact that there is supposedly mathematically proven theories that provide a Joe Nobody an advantage over over a 100 billion dollar gaming industry blows me away. These companies must spend millions on research, development, security, etc. to guarantee thier wins. But with some study and a bit of practice your or I can beat the odds is pretty cool.

While I don't want to read a thesis and study proofs on the thoeries, I would like to understand and learn some of the methods.

21 was a cool movie. I still need to see Rounders.

The older books seems be selling for $4-500 and up. The new book is $250. I have heard some of the older book has dated info. Maybe some of you guys read about this guy in CA?

21 isn't all that accurate, just a Hollywood glorified version of the real truth.
Rounders is well....very accurate as far as all of the illegal and underground gaming facilities, etc.

One thing to remember is that card counting, in most scenarios, involves more than one person either to maximize profits, or to allow the players to work together to make the dealer go bust....which brings collusion into the equation. You're right, casinos spend billions to guarantee they have the odds in their favor, and they can refuse service to anyone they please.... Which is why knowing the math in card counting isn't illegal, but it gets an individual blacklisted since the odds aren't in the houses favor when that individual plays.
